    A Sr. Code Compliance Officer - Field Operations position is available with the City of Fort Worth Code Compliance/Animal Care & Control Division. This position will be assigned to a district within the City of Fort Worth and will be the direct lead for the Animal Control Officers assigned to that district. This position will primarily respond to investigation calls for services such as: Dangerous Dog, Animal Bites, Animal Cruelty, Intact Pet Permits, Multiple Pet Permits, Noise Complaints and other escalated calls within the City of Fort Worth along with any other duties as assigned. The candidate will be expected to issue citations and appear in the municipal court when requested. Potential candidates for this role will be proficient in State and local laws regarding Animal Control.
    • This is a Full-time position, with benefits, working a minimum 40 hours, subject to mandatory overtime and shift differentials for twilight hours worked.
    • The position requires the ability to work a rotating shift, weekends, holidays, special events as scheduled.
    • In order to be considered you have to complete and pass the City’s Defensive Driving course.
    • HOA/Neighborhood meetings and other shifts as deemed necessary by management

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an Animal Control Officer Basic Certification through the Texas Department of State Health Services within six (6) months of hire.
    • Possession of or ability to obtain a Euthanasia Certification within four (4) months of hire.
    • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience enforcing municipal ordinances, and code, animal care and control, animal welfare, or related experience depending on assignment.
    • Valid Texas Driver’s License.
    • HS diploma/GED supplemented by specialized training in code enforcement, building codes, zoning regulations or a related field.
    • Candidate selected for hire must pass Pre-Employment Drug Screen, Physical and Criminal Background check.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Euthanasia Certified, and/or the ability to obtain within the first 6 months of employment
    • Working knowledge of PetPoint Software or equivalent
    • Advanced Knowledge of Microsoft Office
    • Management/Supervisory/Team Lead experience
    • Certification in Animal Cruelty Investigations

    The Sr. Code Compliance Officer - Field Operations job responsibilities include:
    • Providing leadership and training to new and existing staff to ensure proper procedures, techniques and processes.
    • Assists local Animal Control Officers, Code Compliance Supervisors and Officers, Police Officers and Detectives with directives when dealing with complex cases involving animal cruelty investigations, rabies investigations, bite prevention and dangerous dog investigations. Safely operation of city issued vehicle and equipment.
    • Completing all paperwork and handling a high-volume caseload efficiently.
    • Able to communicate verbally and in written form to citizens, Supervisors and leadership in a clear, concise and professional manner.
    • Ability to handle escalated cases and situations using effective conflict resolution in a professional manner.
    • Enforces state and local laws by responding to more complex citizen complaints, investigating the complaint, educating the animal owner and issuing citations.
    • Appears in court and provide testimony for citations or warrants written.

Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions.

    Heavy Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.

    Medical Program

    Vacation

    Eligible for 3 weeks of vacation: After successful completion of probationary period (usually

    Holidays

    Available on the first day of employment, the city provides employees with paid holidays, including two personal holidays.

    Wellness Program

    The city’s Healthy Challenge Wellness Program rewards all full-time, benefit-eligible employees on the city’s health insurance. The Healthy Challenge Program utilizes a points system. Participants may earn points throughout the year (Jan. 1-Dec. 15) for completing specific program activities and participants can redeem points at the end of the year for a cash reward. By participating, individuals can earn $150, $200 or $250 by accumulating program points.
