The Town of Avon, CO is seeking a Public Works Director for this mountain town community situated between two international ski resorts, Beaver Creek and Vail, located in the central Rocky Mountains only 100 miles west of Denver (on Interstate 70). Avon offers a small-town atmosphere with abundant outdoor recreation access (skiing, biking, hiking, fishing) and diverse cultural offerings.
THE TOWN OF AVON
Incorporated in 1978, the Town of Avon is a full-service municipality serving a population of 6,500 year-round residents across 8.42 square miles along with 2 million annual visitors to the Vail Valley. The Town operates under a Council-Manager form of government with a 2025 budget of $55M. The Town Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the Town’s six departments, with a staff of just over 118 full-time employees and upwards of 100 part-time and seasonal employees.
THE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR
The Public Works Director will oversee a department that includes four divisions and offers multiple municipal services. The next Public Works Director must possess a passion for excellence and innovation with strong communication and leadership skills as Avon continues to grow and develop.
The Public Works Director must have familiarity with local government and public works operations that serve a resort community. The Public Works Director collaborates with the executive management team, including the Town Manager’s Office, and municipal departments on many community projects, services, and initiatives.
