    POSITION OVERVIEW :

    The Airport Systems Officer is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all airport systems at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport ( AUS ). This includes the planning, implementation, and oversight of preventive maintenance programs, responding to maintenance requests, managing maintenance staff, and coordinating with stakeholders to minimize disruptions to airport operations. This position is critical to maintaining the airport’s infrastructure and supporting its continued growth and success.

    Primary Duties: The Airport Systems Officer is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all AUS airport systems. This includes developing and implementing preventive maintenance programs for systems like electrical, HVAC , plumbing, lighting, and baggage handling. They manage a maintenance team, assigning tasks, training, and evaluating performance. The Officer responds to maintenance requests, troubleshoots, and coordinates repairs to minimize operational disruptions. They monitor system performance, identify potential problems, and implement corrective actions. Coordination with stakeholders (airlines, concessionaires, tenants) is crucial for scheduling maintenance. Budget management, tracking expenditures, and ensuring compliance with regulations and safety standards are also key. The role involves maintaining records of maintenance activities, collaborating with external contractors, and staying current with industry best practices. Inventory management and reporting to airport management are also required. Finally, the position necessitates working during peak times, including holidays, storms, Austin’s festivals, and special events.

    TRAVEL :

    ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL :

    This position is categorized as an Essential Personnel. Essential personnel are required to come to work during emergencies or bad weather at the airport if they are scheduled to work and in some cases when they are not scheduled.

    CRIMINAL HISTORY BACKGROUND CHECK :

    Top candidate will be subject to a minimum 10 year criminal background check and security threat assessment.

    WORK HOURS :

    Shift may change according to departmental needs. Work hours may include after hours, holidays, and weekend work

    $56.43 - $73.36

    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

    Develops annual and multi-year work plans and strategies to meet the airport’s maintenance needs. Develops and directs the implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and work standards to support the airport strategic plan. Leads the airport maintenance teams in ensuring the Airport’s systems are well maintained to provide efficient operation and positive customer experience. Confers with representatives of airlines, concessionaires, and other persons using airport facilities to coordinate maintenance and repair activities in tenant spaces. Directs airport maintenance to ensure compliance with Federal aviation regulations, policies, procedures, and delivery of quality customer and operational services. Makes recommendations on construction, alterations, and maintenance activities at airport facilities. Directs actions and resources to resolve emergencies, significant weather events, and other irregular operation. Reviews, approves, and implements recommended changes to plans and leads the development of process or operational improvements. Represents AUS interest in Aviation, technical factors, governmental and regulatory agencies, Boards and Commissions, City Council Committees, City Council, and other related oversight agencies and AUS stakeholders.

    Responsibilities- Supervision and/or Leadership Exercised:

    Responsible for the full range of management and supervisory activities: selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

    • Knowledge of FAR Part 139 to manage and maintain aircraft operations.
    • Knowledge of airport property and other facilities within the airport to manage operations and emergency events.
    • Knowledge of airport operations to direct, manage, and control field operations.
    • Knowledge of the International Facilities Management standards.
    • Knowledge of the National Incident Management Systems to work with other agencies and departments during all airport emergencies.
    • Knowledge of the simultaneous use of several radio frequencies to provide and receive information from airport, FAA , airline, and other personnel.
    • Knowledge of management principles related to municipal project or program activities.
    • Knowledge of reporting concepts, budgeting, purchasing, and preferred business practices.
    • Skill in effective oral and written communications.
    • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
    • Skill in handling conflict and uncertain situations.
    • Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
    • Ability to manage public relations and use media to facilitate information to the public.
    • Ability to communicate positively and effectively with elected officials; AUS leadership; managers; Local, State, and Federal agency representatives; contractors; tenants; media representatives; foreign and domestic dignitaries; passengers; and members of the public from widely diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
