DescriptionSupervises rail maintenance personnel in the inspection, maintenance, repair, and operation of rail transit vehicles to help ensure smooth day-to-day operations and safety.
Minimum QualificationsA combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:
Education- Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field, or equivalent training from a recognized trade school
Experience- Three years of relevant journey-level experience performing rail equipment maintenance and repair
Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements- May be required to work irregular hours, nights, weekends when necessary, and respond to emergencies on a 24-hour, 7-days-a-week basis
- Must comply with all California Occupational Safety & Health Act (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and protective gear "including but not limited" to respirators and/or hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required
- Valid California Class C Driver License
- Positions in this job classification are considered safety-sensitive and subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing, under Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulations

- Planning, organizing, and monitoring work of a rail equipment maintenance work unit
- Analyzing situations, identifying problems, and recommending solutions
- Interacting professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives

- Prepare comprehensive reports and correspondence
- Understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and labor/management agreements
- Compile, analyze, and interpret complex data
- Construct equipment testing processes and equipment
- Supervise assigned staff
- Travel to offsite locations
- Read, write, speak, and understand English
