DEGREE PLANS OR GRADES FROM A STUDENT SELF-SERVICE PORTAL WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Omission of a transcript will be the basis for disqualification.

International degrees must be accompanied with an evaluation of the comparable academic qualification. There are several associations related to degree evaluations that can be contacted to obtain the required documentation (i.e. Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE) or the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES), etc.).

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wildlife Permit Program manages several permit programs that enable researchers, consultants, educators, rehabilitators, and zoological institutions to do important conservation work while safeguarding our state's valuable wildlife resources. The successful applicant will interface with several TPWD biologists and Game Wardens and will gain familiarity with wildlife laws and regulations that will help them in a future wildlife career. Specific tasks will include: 1) Review and processing of wildlife permit applications. 2) Development of written materials for internal and external use. 3) Conduction of facility inspections of a permittee with Law Enforcement and Wildlife professionals. 4) After sufficient training, respond to public inquiries related to wildlife laws and regulations. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.

NOTE : This is an office-based internship, but a priority for the position is to provide this intern with competitive experience for a career in wildlife conservation or wildlife law enforcement.

This year's intern will also be fortunate to help launch a new TPWD permit system and to develop written products that will be used by TPWD for the next decade, further enhancing your resume and portfolio.


Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education :

Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited college or university or recent graduate within the last 6 months.

Minimum of 18 completed semester credit hours from an accredited college or university at time of application.

Must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 grade point scale or "Pass" on a Pass/Fail system.

Experience :

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience :

Experience working or volunteering on projects involving wildlife and/or plants or wildlife law enforcement.

Experience with native Texas wildlife species.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of native Texas wildlife species, native vegetation, and ecology.

Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

Skill in using MS Word, Excel, SharePoint, TEAMS, and Outlook.

Skill in using standard office equipment.

Ability to learn and understand applicable laws and regulations, with a focus on those applicable to nongame wildlife, rehabilitation, and wildlife-related research.

Ability to communicate effectively with the general public.

Ability to work as part of a team to accomplish specific tasks.

Ability to manage multiple assigned tasks and to manage time effectively.

Ability to learn basic hunting and fishing regulations.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Required to work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Required to work on holidays, weekends, and hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. as necessary.

Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays.

Must conform to TPWD Safety policies and procedures.
