    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    PLEASE NOTE:

    READ - IMPORTANT TRANSCRIPT REQUIREMENT:

    A copy of a current college transcript, ISSUED FROM THE REGISTRAR with a signature and/or school watermark, must be attached to the application at time of submission. The transcript must show current GPA, credits, and current enrollment or recent graduation date.

    International degrees must be accompanied with an evaluation of the comparable academic qualification.     GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

    Under the direction of the Personnel and Benefits Services Manager, this internship is an opportunity designed for students to obtain relevant work experience in the Human Resources field, primarily health and wellness; other work may include areas such as benefits, onboarding, offboarding, and classification/compensation. Performs special projects/assignments to enhance the overall working knowledge and skills related to health and wellness activities. Assists the Agency Wellness Coordinator with updating internal communication, conducting research, organizing events, etc. for the wellness program. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.

    NOTE: As students, paid work experience reflected on your application may be limited. Therefore, applicants are encouraged to include an addendum to their intern application that addresses any additional educational, volunteer, civic/community engagement or life experiences that addresses the knowledge, skills and abilities reflected on this intern opportunity.


    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education:

    Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited college or university or recent graduate within the last 6 months;

    Minimum of 18 completed semester credit hours from an accredited college or university at time of application;

    Must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 grade point scale or "Pass" on a Pass/Fail system.

    Experience:

    None required.

    Licensure:

    Must possess a valid State driver's license.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education:

    Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited college or university in a health education degree plan or closely related field.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    Knowledge in general office procedures;

    Skill in effective verbal and written communication;

    Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner;

    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts;

    Skill in effective interaction with staff at all levels of the department and other State agencies and organizations;

    Skill in managing several projects simultaneously;

    Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook;

    Skill in working as a member of a team;

    Skill in performing detail-oriented tasks;

    Skill in meeting deadlines;

    Ability to be detailed oriented and have a high degree of accuracy;

    Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information;

    Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple changing priorities;

    Ability to maintain a professional attitude and use sound judgment when dealing with interpersonal conflict, deadlines, interruptions and customers;

    Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 15 lbs.;

    Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Internship duration and work week schedule to be mutually determined by supervisor and intern;

    Required to work 40 hours per week, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday;

    Required to work overtime as necessary;

    May required to travel 5% of the time with possible overnight stays;

    Required to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 15 lbs.;

    Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
