    ABOUT THE POSITION

    The Clark County Department of Aviation is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Senior Airport Equipment Mechanic position. This recruitment will be used to hire for various areas within the Facilities division including, but not limited to, Airport Equipment Systems (AES) and Baggage Handling System (BHS). This position provides work direction and training of skilled and semi-skilled employees on a day-to-day basis and performs journey-level mechanical work throughout Harry Reid International Airport that support the operation of the airport. Some of the systems include the maintenance and repair of highly complex luggage movement systems, aircraft boarding bridges, commercial overhead doors, commercial vehicle gates, and automated entrance doors throughout the airport. Additionally, this position performs mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and problem diagnosis. The Senior Airport Equipment Mechanic for the BHS position has a concentration on the highly complex luggage movement system. The Senior Airport Equipment Mechanic for the AES position has a concentration on the aircraft boarding systems. Both positions will need the ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues and problem diagnosis of multiple different systems.

    This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months at either level or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education and Experience:

    Graduation from high school (or equivalent), successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship as an electrician, plant, HVAC or facility mechanic or a related trade, and three years of full-time skilled experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of building operating systems and facilities. Additional experience as outlined above may be substituted for an apprenticeship program on a year-for-year basis. Attendance at a recognized trade school is desirable.

    Working Conditions: Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations.

    Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Class C Nevada Driver's License at time of hire.

    Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment medical examination.

    Pre-employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre- employment drug test.

    Residency Requirement: Permanent employees must maintain a principal place of residency within the boundaries of Clark County and provide proof of compliance with Nevada motor vehicle registration and drivers' license laws within 90 days of employment.

    Citizenship: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Please note, Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers for any employment positions.

    Background Check: Employment with the Department of Aviation is contingent upon completion of an education/experience background investigation, a fingerprint-based criminal history record check processed by the FBI, and upon the ability to be granted a security badge as mandated by the Transportation Security Administration. Note: all prospective hires must present two original government issued ID's upon acceptance of job offer. Examples of acceptable ID's include a Passport, Driver's License or DMV issued ID, birth certificate, Social Security card, Voter Registration card, school issued ID with picture, etc.

    Customs and Border Protection Security Seal Program: Employment with the Department of Aviation in this job title is contingent upon a ten year employment and five year residency history record check and the ability to present original identity based documentation in order to meet the requirements for a Security Seal.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Mobility to work in a typical shop or related maintenance setting, including operating typical trade equipment, hand and power tools and standard office equipment, and to drive a motor vehicle to various work sites; stamina to stand, walk and climb and to work in confined or awkward spaces for an extended period of time; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds with proper equipment; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over a radio or telephone. Accommodation may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    • Provides lead direction, training and work review to a work crew or team; organizes and assigns work, sets priorities, and follows-up to ensure coordination and completion of assigned work.
    • Inspects, maintains, and repairs to luggage movement systems and aircraft passenger boarding bridges.
    • Inspects, maintains, and repairs to commercial roll-up doors, automated entrance doors, and triturators.
    • Inspects, maintains, and repairs to commercial vehicle gate operators and automated vehicle restraint systems.
    • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
    • May direct the work of less skilled assistants on specific projects; ensures that proper safety precautions are followed.
    • Organizes the work efforts of the contract employees while break down repairs are being performed.
    • Maintains and services a variety of test equipment, hand operated and power tools.
    • Maintains a large inventory of frequently used parts, supplies, and hardware.
    • Maintains electronic and written incident reports.
    • Maintains accurate records of work performed, parts, and materials used by utilizing a computer-based work order tracking system.
    • Provides input into selection, evaluation, disciplinary and other personnel matters; may sign evaluation forms and counsel employees as required.
    • Estimates time, materials, tools, and equipment needed for work assignments; orders and organizes the picks up of materials and supplies as appropriate; prepares cost estimates for jobs.
    • Performs welding and braising on piping systems and mechanical components; fabricates metal elements as for facility and equipment repair.
    • Participates in the design, layout and planning of office, shop facilities, takes measurements; prepares working drawings and sketches; assists in preparing project specifications.
    • Inspects motors, and similar mechanical/electrical equipment on a regular basis; troubleshoots problems and repairs as required.
    • Repairs and installs doors and door hardware; pneumatic door closures and related hardware.
    • Uses standard office equipment, including a computer.
