Position DescriptionEmployees in this classification are responsible for the planning, organization, direction, and evaluation of patient care services (primarily nursing services) within an assigned specialty or sub-specialty area in one of the ambulatory clinics. Persons in this position provide supervision and direction to subordinate nursing personnel, coordinating the nursing service with the medical services in order to provide an efficient and professional environment for optimum production in health care for the patient. Employees are also responsible for providing professional nursing care within the assigned area of work. Supervisory duties include but are not limited to interviewing applicants for vacant nursing positions and making the final selection, maintaining personnel records regarding leave time, evaluations, and personnel problems, conducting employee evaluations, approving and coordinating leave time for nursing personnel, and assisting personnel in setting work-related goals. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions.
Major/Essential Functions- Supervisory duties include but are not limited to interviewing and selecting applicants for vacant nursing positions.
- Maintaining personnel records regarding leave time, evaluations, and personnel records per HR policies and Joint Commission requirements for nursing employees.
- Direct supervision of approximately 3 - 5 nurses at HSC and remote facilities. Supervising staff would be considered at the moderate level.
- Direct and coordinate clinical activities of ENT nursing staff at HSC and remote locations.
- Communicates with patients by telephone per clinic protocols.
- Prepares and operates necessary equipment and instruments for examination, treatments and procedures.
- Sterilizes and disinfects medical equipment and instruments.
- Maintains inventory of supplies in examination and procedure rooms.
- Completes Annual Nursing Core Competency Training and Skills Fair.
- Participates in emergency preparedness drills in the department.
- Attends nursing staff meetings.
- Participates in identifying patient needs for resource referral and facilitates continuity of care.
- Assists with or performs exams and procedures and documents intervention in EMR.
- Takes and records accurate vital signs and measurements.
- Assists in determining the physical and mental health status, needs, and preferences of culturally, ethnically, and socially diverse patients and their families.
- Communicates patient data using EMR to support decision-making to improve patient care.
- Refills and/or sends medications to pharmacies per clinic and facility policy.
- Perform employee evaluations for immediate staff under your supervision.
- Work with physicians and administrators to develop clinical, facility, and equipment needs assessments.
- Formulate and implement ongoing JCAHO-approved technical training programs for nurses.
- Establish clinical nursing protocols.
- Work under the supervision of the Administrator to ensure effective nursing operations.
- Train and counsel assigned staff and monitor performance.
Required QualificationsEducation: Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program.
License/Certification: Current RN license in the State of Texas or ability to obtain a Texas license.
Experience: At least four years in nursing, with at least two of those years in a supervisory capacity.
