    Summary

    Join Our Team as the Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Manager II (EIB Manager II) - A Leadership Opportunity to Shape Equity and Social Justice in Environmental Work!

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Lead the Charge on Equity and Justice: Spearhead the implementation of the 2024 WLRD ESJ Action Plan, ensuring that equity goals are met and progress is tracked across the division.
    • Collaborate for Impact: Work closely with the division's ESJ Core Team, a cross-functional group of division staff, and senior leadership to drive initiatives that integrate equity into the daily work of all team members.
    • Support Systemic Change: Serve as a resource for staff and managers, helping them incorporate equity into their daily tasks and fostering a culture of inclusion, diversity, and anti-racism.
    • Influence the Division’s Direction: Play a central role in guiding the division’s efforts in environmental stewardship, including water quality improvements, land conservation, flood resiliency, and hazardous waste management, with an intentional focus on equity.

    About the Team:

    King County’s Water and Land Resources Division (WLRD) is at the forefront of King County’s efforts to strengthen the resilience of watersheds and our communities. We are a passionate and dedicated workforce of nearly 450 supported by a biennial budget of ~$350 million. Regional services include strategies to steward working farms and forests, restore habitat, recover salmon, improve water quality, reduce toxic threats, protect open space, and provide residents equitable access to green space. As the primary service provider to the King County Flood Control District, the division works to reduce flood risks to people, property, and infrastructure. WLRD’s Environmental Lab and Science programs collect and maintain high-quality regional data sets to assess water quality and environmental trends and apply science to inform decision making. WLRD also provides local stormwater services to unincorporated county residents, reducing drainage problems, improving water quality, and restoring surface waters.     Job Duties

    What You Will Be Doing:

    • Partner with division leadership and the department EIB managers to define and drive ESJ strategies, plans, and actions throughout the division to accelerate progress toward County and department equity goals.

    • Lead implementation and biennial updating of the WLRD ESJ Action Plan.

    • Develop and implement internal communications strategies and tools to increase staff awareness and understanding of equity work in the division and how their work fits with the departmental and County ESJ goals.

    • Convene and lead the WLRD ESJ Core Team and other staff groups as needed to hear feedback, share insights, and advance the division’s equity work.

    • Work with division and department leadership on key activities needed to advance equity goals, such as training and education, community engagement coordination, and performance management.

    • Represent the division at DNRP leadership meetings and with the King County Office of Equity and Racial and Social Justice.


    Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

    Qualifications You Bring:

    • Demonstrated knowledge of the social construct of race and racism as it relates to inequities.

    • At least three (3) years’ experience working in a professional or personal capacity towards racial justice, anti- racism, or social justice issues.

    • At least three (3) years of project management experience.

    • Demonstrated ability to effectively facilitate group meetings and planning sessions with a diverse workforce and stakeholders

    • Demonstrated ability to engage, build, and sustain relationships with diverse people and cultures.

    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to engage with conflict in healthy ways, while working in an environment that can be ambiguous and politically sensitive.

    • At least one (1) year of experience with performance measurement and reporting.

    • Skill in developing and delivering presentations.

    • Ability to work independently and as a team member.

    • Knowledge of laws, programs, and practices in diversity and inclusion (EEO, AA, ADA, anti-discrimination, etc.).

    • Knowledge of human resources and strategic planning techniques and principles.


    Supplemental Information

    Working Conditions:

    • Remote and Onsite Work Details: Employees in this role work remotely from a home location, with onsite reporting requirements typically 3-4 days per month. The frequency of onsite work is determined by business needs and may be adjusted accordingly. Onsite reporting locations may be at various King County worksites including the collaboration space at King Street Center (201 S. Jackson St, Seattle, WA 98104). This work arrangement promotes work-life-balance and reduces carbon footprint under the department’s vision of Green Where We Work.
    • Remote Work Location Requirement: Employees must reside in Washington State and be within a reasonable distance to King County worksites to meet onsite reporting requirements.

    • Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible.
    • Union Representation: This position is not represented by a union.
