    Job Announcement

    The City of Chandler Public Work & Utilities Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Streets Maintenance & Operations Superintendent. This is a full-time, regular, exempt position. The position is scheduled to work Monday through Friday, on a 9/80 schedule.

    Who we are
    The Public Works Division is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City's capital projects, streets and traffic operations. The Public Works team oversees the planning, design, installation, maintenance, and operation of all signs, pavement markings, traffic signals, intelligent transportation systems, and roadway lighting for all City Streets. This includes 238 signalized intersections, 800 traffic cameras, 29,000 streetlights, 22,000 regulatory and warning signs, and 275 miles of roadway striping. Maintenance of over 2,090 lane miles of streets and 130 miles of alleys requiring asphalt patching, repair and replacement of curbs and gutters, sidewalk repair, debris removal, and maintenance of landscaping in the City's right of ways. We also oversee the acquisition of professional services, design, construction, and construction management for transportation, utilities, community services, and other general government improvements.

    Who we are looking for
    Our new team member will have a passion for customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. We are looking for someone to supervises and oversees the daily operations of the assigned areas by setting goals and objectives, manages schedules and work priorities, monitors and evaluates performance, facilitates access to resources and training, performs site visits, manages contracts, provides guidance and addresses complex issues, conducts interviews and makes hiring decisions.

    Minimum qualifications
    • A Bachelor's Degree in Business, Construction Management, Public Administration or a related field; and
    • 5 years of progressively responsible experience in streets construction, maintenance, operations and including at least two (2) years of lead or supervisory experience; and
    • When assigned to Operations and Traffic: At least two (2) years of experience using a computerized asset/maintenance management work order system.
    • a valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record;
    • or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

    Desired qualifications
    • Working knowledge of Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) guidelines
    • Understanding of Federal OSHA and state and county regulations regarding safe work practices.

    This is a regular full-time position, subject to a 6-month probationary period. A register of qualified candidates will be active for 4 months should another position become available.

    The City of Chandler will conduct a pre-employment drug and alcohol test, a driving record check, and a reference check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results. All applicants hired will be required to be fingerprinted with successful results as a condition of continued employment.

These policies have not been altered by the passage of Proposition 207. The use of recreational marijuana is a violation of the city's Drug Free Workplace Policy.
