    This posting is "Continuous" as the job has multiple vacancies and may close at any time when the vacancies have been filled.

    Contribute to local climate action goals in the great outdoors! The Larimer County Conservation Corps (LCCC) offers positions to young adults to spend a season serving on meaningful conservation projects throughout the Front Range of Colorado. The LCCC is based in Fort Collins, Colorado and is an accredited corps through the Colorado Youth Corps Association and The Corps Network.     Assistant crew leaders work side-by-side with crew members and crew leaders to complete work projects in a variety of weather conditions and terrain, including high altitudes. Members engage in a combination of hands-on projects and service-learning activities focused on environmental awareness, community engagement and personal and professional skill development. Projects may include a variety of trail construction or maintenance, invasive species management, fuels reduction with chainsaws, and habitat restoration.

    Assistant crew leaders are AmeriCorps members, earning a bi-weekly stipend of $1510.00. AmeriCorps members also earn an education award of $1,956.35, upon successful completion of the season and are eligible to participate in the AmeriCorps Student Loan Forbearance Program. This position may also qualify for academic credit or internship.

    Crew Details
    Forestry Crew Leader (Camping) (2 positions): is a temporary position from May 19 - August 22 (tentative). Crew will complete projects that can include felling, brushing, and/or limbing (chainsaws) to assist with fire mitigation near Estes Park, Colorado. The crews will camp at various designated and dispersed campgrounds near the work site.

    Crew Schedule
    Assistant Crew Leaders are expected to serve 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday - Thursday and attend a staff meeting on Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to noon, totaling 44 hours a week. If on a camping crew, crew leaders must camp Monday - Wednesday, returning to Fort Collins after working on Thursday. Meals will be provided while camping.

    Certificate Schedule
    Wilderness First Aid will be provided early June in Fort Collins. S-212 will be provided to leaders mid-May at Colorado Fire Camp, travel and training expenses will be covered. Leaders will be expected to test into a Class B Feller. S-130 and S-190 will also be provided mid-August.

    This schedule may be modified due to holidays, training, weather, logistics, or other unforeseen circumstances. Training dates will be coordinated and communicated.

    Project Implementation
    - Complete fire mitigation, hazardous tree removal, and invasive species management using chainsaws (other projects may include habitat restoration, fence construction, and trail work)
    - Perform duties expected of any crew member including conservation work, meal preparation, camp clean up, and other day-to-day duties
    - Demonstrate the safe operation and maintenance of tools and equipment
    - Safely drive a vehicle and trailer
    - Use technology to accurately complete digital daily and weekly logs
    - Implement Larimer County Conservation Corps policies and procedures
    - Coordinate logistics with project sponsors, program coordinator, and corps manager
    - Report directly to the crew leader .

    Responsibilities

    What you'll be doing:
    • Mentoring a crew of five AmeriCorps members, ages 18 to 30, on a daily basis.
    • Motivating and encouraging others to work and persevere in difficult, physically demanding settings.
    • Promoting leadership and fostering teamwork, self-worth, conflict resolution, effective communication, goal setting, decision making, and community building.
    • Monitoring the physical and emotional safety of the crew.
    • Assisting in training the crew in areas such as proper tool use, sawyer certification, and Leave No Trace principles.
    • Maintaining a safe working environment and enforcing the use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
    • Assisting with evaluations, incident reports, and other documentation requirements.
    • Facilitating team-building activities, environmental education, and job/life skills curriculum as projects dictate.

    What we're looking for:
    • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
    • Clear and effective communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Experience working in a team environment
    • Proficiency in troubleshooting and conflict management
    • Previous experience in conservation work
    • A background in natural resources, forestry, or an education-related field, or equivalent experience
    • Previous chainsaw experience, including S-212 certification or equivalent

    • Must be at least 18 years of age.
    • Certification as S212 (Wildland Chainsaw Certification) A Feller is required within 1 month of hire.
    • Assistant Crew Leaders only: Possession of a valid Driver's License by hire date required.
