    Requirements

    MOS Code: None

    Education and Experience : Registered Dietitian with the American Dietetic Association.

    Licenses and Certificates : Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state.

    General Purpose

    Under general direction, manage nutritional programs and services, provide high risk nutrition consultations, and ensure compliance with state and department policies and procedures.

    Typical Duties

    Manage nutritional programs and services. Involves: Evaluate and monitor nutritional programs and services. Ensure program operations are in compliance with local, state and federal regulations. Observe efficiency and effectiveness of program operations and make recommendations concerning operational improvements. Assist in developing policies and procedures necessary to carry out specific programs or projects. Provide high risk counseling to WIC participants and technical assistance to clinics, other agencies and institutions or individuals to aid in nutrition education program. Investigate complaints and resolve client problems pertaining to nutrition services subject to local, state and federal standards. Interview qualified participants and their families to obtain nutritional information.

    Provide nutrition education including breast feeding information and dietary counseling services to institutions and clinics. Coordinate the development of nutritional plans and training materials for education. Plan and conduct in-service training sessions to upgrade nutrition knowledge of health care providers and employees directly involved in nutrition education. Assist in annual grant writing for programs as needed. Attend trainings and conferences pertaining to nutrition education and apply local, state and federal updates to programs as needed. Conduct special projects as assigned.

    Supervise assigned staff. Involves: Schedule, assign, instruct, guide and check work. Appraise employee performance. Provide developmental opportunities for staff, monitors training, maintains files and schedules appropriate training as needed. Enforce personnel rules and regulations, and work behavior standards firmly and impartially. Counsel, motivate and maintain harmony. Interview applicants. Recommend hiring, termination, transfers, discipline, merit pay or other employee status changes.
