    DESCRIPTION

    This is a part-time, at-will, non-benefitted position. It is assigned to work no more than 1,000 hours per fiscal year (July 1 though June 30).

    Under supervision of the Senior Recreation Coordinator, plan, schedule, organize, lead, and track volunteer projects in the City of Ukiah.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS

    • In coordination with Recreation and Parks staff identify potential projects to improve the cleanliness and aesthetics of City owned and operated facilities.
    • In coordination with Recreation and Parks staff maintain a prioritized list of potential projects to improve the cleanliness and aesthetics of City owned and operated facilities.
    • Communicate with Recreation staff a schedule of volunteer projects and assist with publicizing volunteer workdays.
    • Prepare all necessary tools and supplies needed for volunteer workdays and transport or arrange for transportation to the worksite.
    • On volunteer workday, greet and orient volunteers to the project. Assure all volunteers have signed a waiver.
    • Supervise volunteer workers in the performance of typical workday duties such as removing or painting over graffiti, garbage pickup, weeding, etc.
    • Document photos of projects and participant logs including hours or work performed.
    • Operate vehicles, power equipment, hedge clippers, and related grounds and park maintenance equipment.
    • Keep tools and equipment in clean and safe working condition.
    • Respond to emergency calls after normal duty hours.
    • Work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Knowledgeof:
    • Principals of clear communication.
    • Methods, tools, techniques, and supplies used in the graffiti removal, painting, and garbage pickup.
    • Safe work practices.

    Ability to:
    • Perform heavy manual labor and lift up to 50 pounds.
    • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
    • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with the public and those contacted in the course of work.
    • Work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
    • Accommodate outside work in extreme weather conditions.


    Education and Experience:
    Any combination of experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying.

    Necessary Special Requirements:
    • Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License.
    • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and respond to emergency call-outs.
    • Possession of CPR for infant, child, and adult, and Standard First Aid certificates within 12 months of appointment.


    SELECTION PROCEDURE

Applications will be reviewed by a screening committee and those applicants who appear to be among the best qualified will be selected for the examination process. This process may include a variety of techniques designed to test applicants’ knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job. An eligibility list will be established by ranking candidates by their overall score and a selection will be made from the candidates on this list. All employment offers are subject to a City-paid physical examination and a thorough reference and background check.
