    Definition and Class Characteristics

    INTERVIEWS FOR SELECTED CANDIDATES WILL BE HELD ON FEBRUARY 5, 2025

    This temporary position is budgeted at 960 hours. The successful candidate will be scheduled to work 20-29 hours per week through June 2025 or until 960 hours is reached.

    The Administrative Assistant will work at the Eric Rood Administrative Government Center in Nevada City, CA, and will assist the Human Resources Department with many meaningful and vital administrative support tasks.
    Main Duties:Plans and coordinates staff services activities of department such as purchasing supplies, recordkeeping, scheduling, research, and office managementUses accounting principles and spreadsheets for duties including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other fiscal tasks. Assists in planning, tracking and organizing department budgeting activities.Research and process various departmental documents, records and forms requiring contract interpretation and administration.Maintains records relating to conflict-of-interest reporting.Gathers, maintains, and analyzes various administrative data and prepares reports.Review, research, and respond to correspondence and inquiries from employees and the public and provides information to customersConduct research and analysis for special projects.Acts as liaison with other County departments.Provides administrative and customer service support, including greeting the public and answering the phone in the reception role.Maintains records and participates in archiving tasks. May assist in planning, developing and implementing administrative improvements (i.e. departmental systems and procedures).Knowledge of: Basic budgetary principles and practices.Business writing and report preparation.Functions and organization of local government.Skill in: Common office hardware and software, including strong experience with Microsoft products. Customer service and public-facing communication.

    Education and Experience Required

    Level I:

    Equivalent to two years of college level course work from an accredited college or university, with classes in public administration, political science, business administration, economics or a related field and one year of responsible experience in office management, administrative analysis, personnel management, budgetary analysis, or accounting.? Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.

    Level II (in addition to the above):

    Two years of responsible administrative experience at a level equivalent to Nevada County's classification of Administrative Assistant I.

    Sick Leave:

    Temporary County employees shall accrue at the rate of one (1) hour of sick leave for each thirty (30) hours worked. Temporary County employees can accrue a maximum of 80 hours of sick leave which may be carried over from one fiscal year to the next.

    Medical Benefits:

    Temporary employees whose assignments average 30 hours per week or more are eligible to enroll in County-sponsored medical benefits.

Rain in January typically averages ten inches per year and the highest elevations receive an annual average of 206 inches of snow.

    Scenic trails, alpine lakes, the Yuba River and the Sierra Nevada Mountains all support numerous recreation activities, including skiing, biking, hiking, fishing, kayaking, hunting and backpacking. With a calendar packed with street fairs, festivals, art exhibits, local theater and children’s activities, visitors and locals can experience small-town life without having to forgo indulgence in pleasures more typical of an urban setting. 

     

    Arts and Culture:

    Nevada County is a creative hotspot in the Sierra Nevada, offering an array of experiences, including concerts, film festivals, street fairs, dance performances, poetry readings, studio tours and galleries. The county also has numerous venues for performing arts, many of which are historic settings. The arts have a large economic impact, which has become a vital component to life in Nevada County.
