This position is part of a two-level career progression of Assistant City Prosecutor I and II.

    The ideal candidate is a forward-thinking prosecutor who embraces technology and customer service. The Assistant City Prosecutor is responsible for all aspects of municipal prosecutions and appeals including appearing in court, conducting trials and all aspects of motion work; provides assistance with other civil and criminal matters within the jurisdiction of the city; performs legal research; prepares legal documents and opinions; authors and revises city ordinances; answers legal questions; advises the public, city departments and city management; provides training to stakeholders and assists the City Prosecutor and City Attorney as needed in matters within the jurisdiction of the city.

    Career Progression

    Assistant City Prosecutor I Pay Range: $90,480 - $111,077

    Assistant City Prosecutor II Pay Range: $101,088 - $123,295

    The Assistant City Prosecutor I is responsible for all aspects of municipal prosecutions and appeals and aiding with other civil and criminal matters within the jurisdiction of the city. A significant portion of their time will be spent in court conducting dockets and trial work. This position is part of a two-level career progression of Assistant City Prosecutor I and II.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Represents the City in municipal court proceedings including dockets, trials, appeals, and administrative hearings.
    • Responsible for trial preparation; compiles information, records, and evidence; interviews witnesses; develops and revises ordinances and resolutions, providing necessary supporting documentation.
    • Conducts research on local and state legislation related to municipal prosecution.
    • Works closely with the Court Services Officers in the monitoring and revocation of defendants.


    Qualifications

    Experience: Experience in municipal court and criminal law, including trial experience, is preferred.

    Education: A juris doctorate degree is required.

    Licenses & Certifications: License to practice law in the State of Kansas and in federal court is required.
