The list established will be used to fill current and future Office Supervisor C/D positions with the Probation Department. The eligible list established may also be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower classifications throughout the County of Orange.

PROBATION DEPARTMENT The Orange County Probation Department assists the criminal justice system in Orange County, California by making a safer Orange County through positive change. Under the direction of the Chief Probation Officer, a dynamic executive team with an organizational structure comprised of three bureaus - Adult Operations, Juvenile Operations, and Administrative Services - serves the community using efficient and research supported corrections practices to reduce crime, assist the Courts in managing offenders, promoting lawful and productive lifestyles and assisting victims.
THE OPPORTUNITYOffice Supervisor C: $25.45 - $34.13/hourly
Office Supervisor D: $26.97 - $36.03/hourly
The Office Supervisor C/D will act as a first level supervisor over staff and functions ranging from supervising 10-15 or more positions or supervising fewer positions where 2-5 or more are at levels equivalent to or higher than the Information Processing Specialist. Job duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Maintaining employee drop files
- Verifying timecards bi-weekly of all staff supervised
- Using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook proficiently, and navigating a variety of software systems depending on the assignment
- Collaborating with Senior Office Supervisors and Office Managers to keep them apprised of unit's status and updates as needed
- Interacting with a variety of stakeholders depending on the assignment
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & CORE COMPETENCIESThe ideal candidate will have at least three (3) years of general office experience which includes at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. It is highly desirable (but not required) to have experience working for a law enforcement agency.
In addition, the ideal candidate will demonstrate job knowledge and related experience in the following competencies:
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE- Knowledge of general office procedures and equipment
- Knowledge of basic principles of mathematics including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers, fractions, and percentages
- Knowledge of basic and specialized spelling and grammar
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work and work of others
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS- Ability to generate enthusiasm and motivate others to act in support of a program's objectives
- Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships
ORAL / WRITTEN COMMUNICATION SKILLS- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively in English orally and in writing
- Ability to respond to public inquiries and complaints concerning technical issues
- Ability to prepare and orally present information to various groups
- Ability to review, evaluate, and summarize in writing the evaluation of such data in terms of trends or general indications of possible problem areas
- Ability to listen attentively and understand communication by subordinate and supervisory/managerial staff, the public, and technical staff
PROBLEM SOLVING & DECISION MAKING- Knowledge of techniques for gathering, compiling, analyzing and presenting information
- Ability to analyze problems in context of available information and program constraints

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS The Probation Department requires that all candidates undergo an extensive background investigation process, to the satisfaction of the Department. Candidates must successfully clear prior to the start of their employment. All employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of the background investigation.
