    Summary

    Starting Salary: $63,072.02 - $70,344.59

    The City of Waco Seeks
    The Waco-McLennan County Public Health District TB Prevention and Care Clinic is seeking a registered nurse, licensed to practice in the State of Texas, to provide professional public health nursing to the residents of McLennan County. Under the guidance of our Local Health Authority, this position requires extensive interaction with diverse populations in clinic and in field, as well as frequent consultation with medical professionals. The creation and presentation of TB focused educations is a fun addition to this clinical opportunity! Your new nursing experience awaits!

    Minimum Qualifications
    Required:
    • Associate’s Degree in Nursing
    • Three years’ nursing experience
      • or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Professional registration as a Registered Nurse by the Texas Board of Nursing
    • Additional technical certifications in public health are preferred and may be required
    • Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License
    Preferred:
    • Public Health experience


    Job Summary
    Under basic supervision, provides patient care services for the Public Health District (PHD).

    Essential Functions
    • Provides direct patient care for PHD clinic patients; observes and assesses patients' conditions and behavior; reviews patients’ records and records nursing notes on a patient chart.
    • Performs a variety of medical tests and patient care treatments; provides information, counseling, and medical case management according to specific program and physician guidelines; assists with outreach programs; and community education.
    • Supports clinic outreach activities by presenting service opportunities in off-site locations including, but not limited to, businesses, schools, churches, community centers, private organizations, or private homes. Manages inventory of supplies and equipment.
    • May be required to respond after-hours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City-wide emergency.

    Governance and Organization

    Waco is a home rule city with a council-manager form of government. The City Council is comprised of a Mayor, elected at-large, and five City Council members representing single-member districts, all serving two-year terms. The City Council sets the tax rate, approves the budget, appoints members to City boards and commissions, enacts City ordinances, and appoints the City Manager, City Attorney, City Secretary, and the Municipal Court Judge.

    The City has a strong Financial Management Policy that guides the operation and delivery of quality City services, contributes to excellent AA+ and Aa1 bond ratings, and maintains an unassigned fund balance reserve in the General Fund equal to 28% of current year budgeted expenditures. The City of Waco has more than 1,600 employees and a total operating budget of over $400 million.

    The City provides a full range of municipal services including a regional airport, animal services, building inspections, code enforcement, convention and visitors bureau, emergency management, housing and community development, economic development, fire, public health, library, municipal court, parks and recreation, planning, police, public works, Texas Ranger Hall of Fame Museum, utilities and zoo operations.
