    • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, and three (3) years experience related to janitorial or grounds keeping services, at least one (1) year of which includes crew experience.
    • One (1) year of additional experience may substitute for one (1) year of High School, up to a maximum of four (4) years substitution


    Licenses or Certifications:
    • If assigned to operate vehicles, must possess the appropriate Texas Driver’s License for those vehicles.

    The Building & Grounds Lead plays a key role in keeping City of Austin facilities clean and inviting, and up to quality standards. In this hands-on position, you’ll spend half your day performing custodial duties, and the other half performing Lead duties such as conducting quality inspections, managing inventory, distributing work assignments, and supporting management with special projects.     Pay Range
    $22.22 - $24.77 per hour

    Hours
    Monday through Friday: Varied eight-hour shift between 5:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
    Some evening, weekend and holiday work may be required.

    Preferred Experience:
    • Experience leading team and/or group trainings on a variety of subjects: custodial practices, workforce engagement, safety, etc.
    • Experience monitoring the work quality of others, and coaching or correcting as necessary.
    • Familiarity with Green cleaning procedures and/or materials.
    • Experience with software including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), maintenance work order systems, and online training programs.
    • Knowledge of safety Best Practices as it relates to SDS , Lock-Out, Tag-Out, etc.
    • Experience cleaning and maintaining all types of flooring in a commercial or industrial setting to include buffing, carpet extraction, waxing, and stripping
    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.


    Performs, assigns and inspects ground maintenance including mowing, raking and mulching leaves, irrigation systems and water consumption Performs and assigns minor building maintenance and repair. Performs and assigns custodial duties of restrooms, buildings and recreation areas. Coordinates crew work with other crews and groups of City employees or contractors. Prepares and dismantles exhibit halls and ballrooms for events Performs routine administrative duties Checks, cleans, and services equipment. Performs and oversees minor construction including erecting partitions, building or tearing down walls, painting, building and/or erecting storage sheds. Responds to citizen complaints.

    • May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others
    • Fills in for supervisor in his or her absence.
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.


    • Knowledge of or ability to learn janitorial or grounds keeping processes, policies, and procedures within the City Department in which assigned.
    • Knowledge of equipment and vehicles used in Building and Grounds services.
    • Skill in oral and written communication.
    • Skill in planning and organizing.
    • Skill in handling multiple projects and prioritizing.
    • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
    • Ability to train others.
    • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with city employees and the public.

    City Government
