    The ITD Infrastructure & Operations Division serves as the backbone of the County's technology landscape. The Division is in search of information technology professionals to join their Unified Communication & Collaboration team, responsible for the County's on-premise and cloud-based unified communication (voice and video), meeting solution, broadcast and collaboration platforms. The successful candidate will work closely with clients, other departments, vendors, and IT personnel to provide technical support and expertise for technical system problems and/or needs.

    The Eligible List established by this recruitment may be used to fill current and future vacancies on a regular full-time, part-time, or temporary basis.

    This classification is part of a flexible series. Incumbents appointment at the lower level of the career series may be promoted up to the higher level of the career series subject to their meeting the employment standards for the higher class and a recommendation for their promotion by the appointing authority.

    Examples of Duties

    • Resolves work orders and requests for services pertaining to the administration and maintenance of department information systems.
    • Provides technical support and expertise to evaluate and recommend resolutions of technical system problems.
    • Provides systems administration and technical support for systems in a physical, virtual, or cloud hosted environment.
    • Provides escalated support for other teams as needed.
    • Consults with clients, other departments, departmental staff, vendors, and technical support personnel to determine customer application platform hosting needs and functionality, to determine operating procedures and systems design to ensure system performance meets user requirements, and to clarify and resolve application technical operational and management issues/needs.
    • Participates in educational and professional development programs and training to remain current in the information technology field.
    THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
    Will have a proven track record demonstrating the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

    Working Knowledge of :
    • Techniques and methods of systems analysis and design.
    • Security methods and best practices.
    • Troubleshooting techniques to evaluate system failures and provide resolutions.
    Some Knowledge of :
    • Effective customer service techniques.
    Skill and Ability to :
    • Gather, organize, and evaluate data, draw logical conclusions, and make effective recommendations.
    • Understand the impact of organizational, administrative, and personnel aspects of new information systems designs and implementations.
    • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
    • Maintain strict confidentiality of data and information processed.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
    • Read, understand, interpret, and apply the concepts of technical specification documents and log files.
    • Follow oral and written instructions.


    Examples of Experience/Education/Training

    Any combination of training, education, and/or experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities and required conditions of employment is qualifying. An example of a way these requirements might be acquired is:

    Education :

    Possession of a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field from an accredited four-year college or university;

    OR
    Experience :
    Four (4) years of technical experience in systems analysis, operating systems, systems administration, database administration, application administration or a related field in a multi-platform infrastructure system environment;

    OR

    Experience :

    Two (2) years of experience performing work equivalent to an IT Support Specialist in the County of Monterey.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
    The required conditions of employment include, but are not limited to the following:
    • Successfully pass a background investigation including but not limited to a fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice.
    • Possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license or the ability to provide suitable transportation that is approved by the appointing authority.
    • Be available to work a flexible schedule, including on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays and during times of emergency and/or disaster; travel out of County to attend meetings.
