The Irvine Police Department seeks an Animal Services Officer to educate and enforce the laws governing the care and keep of animals.
The Animal Control division is staffed seven days a week. The selected candidate must be willing to work various shifts that include nights, weekends and holidays. On-call shifts may be required.
All applicants must be able to pass the Public Safety background check process.
This position receives a Hazard Stipend of an additional $900/year since this position will work in arterial roadways. Certain requirements/restrictions may apply.
Your Impact- Investigate animal related crimes, write reports, book evidence. Initiate appropriate corrective action.
- Conduct inspections and respond to calls and complaints.
- Issue warning and citations to enforce state and local laws.
- Educate citizens about the laws and regulations.
- Collect sick or injured wildlife and impound the animals.
- Clean and maintain the animal control vehicle and cages utilized to transport animals.

Best Fit- Experience in an animal handling environment. Understands the signals of behavior and animal handling.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong customer service focus and understands and upholds the core values of the Irvine Police Department.
- Experience as an Animal Services Officer is desirable.
- Investigations and trial experience is ideal.
Minimum Qualifications - Equivalent to graduation from high school.
- Two years' experience in public safety activities, community service or in the caring and handling of animals, OR one year experience working in the field as an animal control officer, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Requires a valid California driver's license.
- 832 P.C. certification preferred.
