    Placer County currently has two (2) vacancies for a Student Intern to work in the Human Resources Department. These vacancies are located in the Workforce Optimization Division and the Talent Acquisition & Department Support Division.

    The Workforce Optimization Division consists of multiple teams. The ADA/Leaves Administration team is responsible for disability management which includes the interactive process for reasonable accommodations, leaves of absence administration, and retirement activities. This team is currently reviewing recently approved legislative updates and modifying existing brochures and policies for various impacted areas. The Safety Team oversees the Workers Compensation program, Safety program, Department of Transportation drug and alcohol program, and COVID-19 protocols. This team is spearheading a project to update county wide safety policies which includes creating and/or updating protocols and trainings. The intern position may be assigned to work within any or multiple of these areas.

    All students or recent graduates (up to 1 year after graduation) will be considered for Workforce Optimization, but students with the following majors/degrees are desirable:

      • Human Resources Management
      • Business Administration
      • Organizational Development
      • Psychology
      • Public Administration
      • Related science majors such as Biology, Chemistry (for safety-related activities)


    As a Workforce Optimization Student Intern, you can expect to assist County staff with the following tasks:

      • Database Management via Microsoft Excel or Access
      • Assisting with various projects and research, including policy revisions and legislative updates
      • Scheduling
      • Filing


    Workforce Optimization is looking for interns with certain knowledge and skills. If you have any of the following, you are encouraged to apply:

    The Talent Acquisition & Department Support Division is responsible for pre-employment, recruitment, testing, classification & compensation, and performance management. This division provides solutions for County departments' business needs by recruiting and filling vacancies.

    All students or recent graduates (up to 1 year after graduation) will be considered for Talent Acquisition & Department Support, but students with the following majors/degrees are desirable:

      • Human Resources Management
      • Business Administration
      • Organizational Development
      • Psychology
      • Sociology
      • Public Administration
      • Communications


    As a Talent Acquisition & Department Support Student Intern, you can expect to assist County staff with the following tasks:

      • Job fair staffing
      • Job advertisements
      • Assist with Intern Orientation Day
      • Assist with County youth outreach events, including Youth In Government Day
      • Special projects/assignments


    Talent Acquisition & Department Support is looking for interns with certain knowledge and skills. If you have any of the following, you are encouraged to apply:

    To be eligible for this internship, you must fall into one of these three categories:

    1. Current Undergraduate College/University Student
    a. Student must be enrolled in an accredited 2 or 4 year college or university program.

    b. Student must submit proof of continuing enrollment (current class schedule, unofficial transcripts, etc.) with their application.

    2. Recent College Graduate - up to 1 year after graduation

    a. Recent graduate must submit proof of graduation (diploma, unofficial transcripts, etc.) with their application.

    3. Current Graduate College/University Student

    a. Student must be enrolled in an accredited college or university program.

    b. Student must submit proof of continuing enrollment (current class schedule, unofficial transcripts, etc.) with their application.

    The Student Intern is unclassified and assignments are extra help/temporary compensated at an hourly rate of $16.87 - $21.07 per hour (specialized skillsets may be paid at the higher end of the range). Work hours are limited to no more than 28 hours per week and cannot exceed a maximum of 1,000 hours per fiscal year.

    CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT

    Prior to the date of hire, applicants must undergo a fingerprint test by the Department of Justice, pass a medical examination (which may include a drug screening and possibly a psychological evaluation), sign a constitutional oath, and submit proof of U.S. citizenship or legal right to remain and work in the U.S. For some positions, applicants may also be required to submit proof of age, undergo a background investigation (which may include a voice stress analysis and/or a polygraph), and/or be bonded. Additionally, positions in law enforcement classifications and those supporting law enforcement functions will be required to complete a conviction history questionnaire prior to or during the interview process. Applicants for positions with access to Medi-Cal billing software or who are licensed providers must clear the Federal Exclusion List, credentialing, and social security verification. Failure to clear these requirements may result in an employment offer being withdrawn.
