OverviewLarimer County Information Technology is hiring a Technical Support Specialist/Radio Technician to join our team!
Are you experienced in installing, repairing, and maintaining communication systems, with at least three years of hands-on expertise? Do you hold an Electronics Technician Association (ETA) Associate Electronics Technician (CETa) Certificate or equivalent military training? In this role, you’ll support critical communication infrastructure, including our 911 dispatch center radio consoles, digital trunked radio system, paging systems, and microwave networks across the county. With over 2,000 deployed radios and a network of radio towers, you can expect a hands-on, outdoor work environment - no two days are the same.

The typical schedule for this position is a r egular work week, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (no remote options). Weekend work and overtime work will be required based on needs. On-call rotation is expected for 7x24 support of public safety systems.
ResponsibilitiesWhat you’ll be doing:
- Assisting in designing and constructing complex radio and communication systems to support County agencies and external partners.
- Advising on communications equipment purchases to ensure compatibility with existing systems.
- Collaborating with the Systems Administrator to analyze future communication needs and develop proposals for equipment acquisition.
- Coordinating and performing installation, repair, and maintenance of electronic communications equipment.
- Installing, maintaining, and aligning antenna systems, communication towers, feed lines, and lightning protection equipment at local and remote sites.
- Working with vendors to ensure seamless integration with radios, pagers, and microwave/data transmission equipment.

- Experience designing, repairing, tuning, and servicing two-way radios, paging systems, and digital microwave systems.
- Knowledge of 800 MHz trunking systems and their operation.
- Understanding of Ethernet and IP fundamentals and methods.
- Ability to use 4-wheel drive trucks and over-snow transport to access remote tower locations year-round, even in harsh weather conditions.
- Comfort and ability to work at heights and climb radio towers up to 100 feet.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective relationships with County employees, external agencies, and community members.

- Three (3) years of experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of communication systems, a directly related field, or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required.
- High School diploma or GED required. Supplemented by specialized training in communications systems installation, repair, and maintenance required.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License by date of hire required.
- Electronics Technician Association (ETA) Associate Electronics Technician (CETa) Certificate or equivalent course of military training preferred.
