    ABOUT THE POSITION

    The Clark County District Attorney's Office invites you to apply for the position of Family Support Specialist I/II. The Family Support Specialist I/II is responsible for performing a variety of duties involved in establishing and enforcing child support obligations, locating absent parents and establishing paternity. This position reports to a Unit Administrator within the District Attorney Family Support Division.

    THIS RECRUITMENT IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 250 APPLICATIONS RECEIVED AND WILL CLOSE WITHOUT NOTICE ONCE THAT NUMBER IS REACHED.

    Family Support Specialist I: $20.67 - $32.01 Hourly
    Family Support Specialist II: $22.34 - $34.59 Hourly


    The Family Support Specialist I is a training underfill position, upon successful completion of the training program the successful candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Family Support Specialist II.

    This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months at either level or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

    Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the selection process.

    Some positions may be used to fill term Limited-Permanent positions. The selected candidates will be hired for a special project or duties of a limited duration and be required to sign a term of employment letter specifying condition and exact dates of employment. The successful selected candidates will be eligible for benefits during the duration of employment.

    Some positions may be Grant Funded. Grant Funded positions are subject to continuation based on availability of grant funds and the employee will be terminated without right of appeal when such funds are no longer available.

    Some positions may be confidential positions and are excluded from membership in the union.

    Employment is contingent upon the results of a background investigation, which may include both a pre-and post-offer background check for positions within the District Attorney’s Office.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education and Experience:

    Family Support Specialist I - Equivalent to graduation from high school AND three (3) years of full-time experience in office or administrative support involving significant public contact. Professional level experience and/or education that has provided the skills and knowledge necessary to perform all job functions at this level may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

    Family Support Specialist II - In addition to the above: One (1) year of full-time experience establishing, processing and/or enforcing family support obligations.

    Working Conditions: Work in potentially violent, traumatic or highly charged emotional environments.

    Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

    Citizenship: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Please note, Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers for any employment positions.

    Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    • Inputs and assesses child support applications.
    • Determines if paternity needs to be established and provides for genetic testing.
    • Interviews involved parties to confirm facts, verify data, and locate persons and financial assets.
    • Reviews financial assets to determine ability to pay child support.
    • Discusses, negotiates and establishes child support amount and arrears payments.
    • Examines cases and recommends modifications on existing child support obligations when needed.
    • Executes collection calls, written and/or in-person interactions to solicit child support payments and/or set-up repayment plans on overdue accounts; Provides advice on debt repayment policies and default consequences including license suspensions.
    • Monitors compliance with court orders.
    • Works in collaboration with local, state and federal departments, including, but not limited to Nevada Division of Welfare and Supportive Services and Clark County Detention Center, to obtain documentary evidence and other sensitive information.
    • Communicates in person, by telephone, or in writing with customers, out-of-state agencies, attorneys and local businesses to obtain and provide information.
    • Provides superior customer service by assessing customer needs, providing information on their accounts and/or referring them to in-house specialized services and/or community services offered by partnering agencies.
    • Explains family support laws and regulations and assists customers in completing forms.
    • Mediates visitation between involved parties.
    • Processes legal documents such as summons, bench warrants, wage attachments, liens, default judgments, complaints, motions and orders and prepares materials for trial, conferences, findings of fact and conclusions of law according to an attorney's directions.
    • Serves legal process papers.
    • Confers with and assists family support attorneys.
    • Uses and maneuvers through multiple computer programs at once to research, provide information, manage and update electronic case files.
    • Reviews and ensures quality control of inputted information and data for accuracy and administers audits as and when required.
    • Creates reports, correspondence and other written materials.
    • Files documents, letters and related materials.
    • Meets monthly quantitative and qualitative performance standards and federal performance measure goals.
    • Attends training and meetings and contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service by being an active member of a work team.
    • May be required to testify in court.
    • May drive a County or personal motor vehicle or be able to arrange for appropriate transportation in order to attend off-site meetings and visit various partner work sites.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, strength to lift boxes weighing to 30 pounds, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
