    ABOUT THE POSITION

    The District Attorney’s Office is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Legal Process Assistant (LPA) to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential legal office support within the Bureau of Investigations by managing case information, processing a high volume of service requests and emails to include legal documents, uploading a high volume of electronic media via cloud based sharing systems, and interacting with a variety of individuals and agencies. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of customer service, excellent communication skills, the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion, ability to reprioritize workload, and be comfortable with computer software and systems.

    The current vacancy is in the District Attorney’s Office, Bureau of Investigations, which will be filled at either the Legal Process Assistant I or Legal Process Assistant II level. Candidates will be considered for the level for which they meet minimum qualifications.

    The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies for full-time or part-time contingent hire positions in other County departments while the list remains active.     ABOUT YOU

    Our Highly Qualified Candidate has experience working in a legal office setting, a passion for the mission, and a strong commitment to the work. They are a self-starter, adaptable to changing priorities, and able to meet deadlines. While capable of working independently, they also collaborate effectively in teams. The candidate possesses excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience with data entry, including managing high volumes of legal information, emails, and media. They are familiar with case management systems and procedures used in a legal office environment and have experience managing data through cloud based sharing systems. Additionally, the candidate has experience or a high desire in interacting with law enforcement, and other agencies.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Knowledge of:
    • Legal office and criminal justice system terminology, forms, documents and procedures.
    • Specified computer applications involving word processing, data entry, data base access and/or standard report generation.
    • Business arithmetic.
    • Standard office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment.
    • Business letter writing and the standard format for typed materials.
    • Record keeping principles and practices.
    • Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
    • Techniques for dealing with the public, in person and over the telephone.

    Ability to:
    • Read, understand and review for accuracy legal and court documents and extract relevant information.
    • Use applicable legal office systems, terminology, forms, documents and procedures in the course of the work.
    • Apply, explain and interpret appropriate laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
    • Learn the policies, procedures and guidelines of the department to which assigned in a timely manner.
    • Compose correspondence or documents independently or from brief instructions.
    • Deal successfully with the public, in person and over the telephone, occasionally where relations may be confrontational or strained.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered during performance of duties.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Legal Process Assistant I: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge and skills listed. Typically, equivalent to graduation from high school and two years of general clerical or office assistant experience.

    Legal Process Assistant II: In addition to the above, one year of experience in providing office support in a court, criminal justice, investigative or legal office setting.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    Depending on the hiring Department: The selected candidate may have to pass a background investigation as required for employment in a law enforcement agency.
