    Essential Job Functions

    An Irrigation and Lawn Sprinkler Fitter is responsible for performing a combination of essential job functions:

    • Lays out complete sprinkler systems.
    • Chooses line size, sprinkler spacing, type of head and special control equipment.
    • Installs, tests and maintains sprinkler systems completer with low voltage electric and hydraulic components including mains, feeders, risers and all types of heads.
    • Works with all types of sprinkler system material including PVC, galvanized steel, copper pipe and all types of sprinkler heads.
    • Conducts and directs trenching and backfill operations.
    • Reads blueprints, orders materials from blueprint and prepares materials requisitions.


    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
    Five years' experience in lawn and landscape sprinkler installation, alteration and repair work, one year of which must have been at the journey-level*.

    LICENSE:
    A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

    PHYSICAL CLASS:
    Physical Class III - Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS INFORMATION:
    *Journey-level experience is defined as possessing the required knowledge, skills, and training to perform a full-range of irrigation and lawn sprinkler fitter maintenance work independently, reliably, and safely. Positions at this level operate with significant freedom from day-to-day supervision and need little or no guidance on such matters as selecting appropriate material, completing work in accordance with applicable codes and regulations, and applying proper methods, techniques and procedures to carry out work.

    Additional Information

    EXAMINATION CONTENT:
    This exam will consist of a computer-based multiple-choice test weighted 100%, covering knowledge of sprinklers, tools, safety practices, basic math and reading comprehension.

    Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination to be added onto the list of eligible candidates.

    This computer-based test is not reviewable per CSR 7.19.

    ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:
    The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.

    Notice of Non-Acceptance and Final Result letters will be sent electronically to your e-mail address. Scores cannot be given over the telephone.

    SPECIAL INFORMATION:
    The County of Los Angeles is a Fair Chance employer.
