    Introduction

    This position serves as a member of the City of Scottsdale's Parks & Recreation team within the Community Services Division. This position will report to a Parks & Recreation Manager working to create and update our parks maintenance standards. This recruitment is for the selection of the Community Services Operations Supervisor - Parks Maintenance position that will supervise our Parks Foremen providing support and ensuring our standards are being met in our community and neighborhood parks. Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate strong experience in turf management, sports field maintenance, project management and tree care. The ideal candidate will be a good communicator, organized, self-motivated, and excelling in customer service.

    Anticipated starting salary for this position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate's experience and internal equity. The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $42.39/hour

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education and Experience
    • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited educational institution.
    • Three years of experience in a related field specific to the area of assignment.
    • Must have at least one year of lead or supervisory experience.
    • An equivalent combination of education and job-related experience may substitute for the educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.

    Licensing, Certifications, and Other Requirements
    • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
    • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
    • Must possess and maintain a valid Certified Applicator with the Arizona Pest Control possessing Category 1 (Industrial and Institutional), Category 3 (Ornamental & Turf), and Category 4 (Right-of-Way) within 6 months of date of hire or promotion, and annually thereafter.
    • Must possess and maintain either a Certified Arizona Landscape Professional certification or Certified Sustainable Landscape Management certification within 6 months of date of hire or promotion and annually thereafter.
    Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.

    Essential Functions

    Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:
    • Supervises employees and coordinates personnel-related activities to include, but not limited to training, approving work schedules, recommending/approving personnel actions, coaching and counseling, establishing performance goals, and writing performance evaluations.
    • Plans, coordinates, and supervises the day-to-day operations of a specific area of assignment, which includes, but is not limited to, monitoring projects, work orders, and assignments.
    • Utilizes the Scottsdale EZ program to address and respond to citizen concerns and/or requests.
    • Assigns/reviews daily work, answers questions from staff, estimates time requirements for each task, allocates manpower, and coordinates staffing based on program and/or facility needs throughout the year.
    • Collaborates with internal staff on the administration of contract and bid processes.
    • Prepares, justifies, and monitors an annual budget(s) specific to an area of assignment.
    • Plans, creates, develops, implements, and monitors objectives through innovative management techniques.


    Work Environment/Physical Demands

    • Work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
    • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds, depending upon assignment.
    • May be required to work outdoors in all types of weather.
    • Exposure to weather conditions, traffic hazards, and noises.
    • Operates standard office equipment and a motor vehicle.
    • Some work is performed in an office setting, but may include walking, moving, or climbing elevations; requires moderate muscular exertion and lifting.
    • Maintenance positions also may also include these work environment/physical demands characteristics:
    • Perform construction and maintenance functions requiring visual and manual dexterity and precision measurements.
    • Read and work from drawings and specifications.
    • Calibrate and apply both liquid and granular fertilizer/herbicides/pesticides using most recent horticulture standards and practices.
    • Regular exposure to dust, grease, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and unpleasant hazardous odors.
    • Operate various landscaping hand tools.
