    Job Description and Duties

    Under the direction of the Deputy District Director for Transportation Planning, the incumbent is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading system planning activities in District 10. The incumbent will lead the development of corridor plans, freight and mobility hub activities, relinquishments, and support the development of local, regional, and statewide plans related to the state highway system. The incumbent will provide leadership in coordinating and promoting these efforts through collaborative efforts consistent with state goals and policies. Additional work may include providing technical assistance in identifying and supporting research and analysis of long-range planning activities, and other core planning areas such as competitive grant applications, local development reviews, project initiation documents, regional planning, etc. This Office also coordinates technical support functions for, but not limited to, Geographical Information Systems, Intelligent Transportation Systems, and special assignments. The position requires excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills, composing special reports and knowledge of contract management. The incumbent has skills in leadership and organization, interest in supporting the Department's and District's strategic goals and vision, and a commitment to advancing equity through all efforts.     Working Conditions

    Position located in Stockton, San Joaquin County.

    Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.

    While at their base of operation, employees will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting. Employees will be required to traverse the District compound to discuss projects with staff in other buildings. This may be necessary during inclement weather conditions. Employees may also be required to travel for special assignments, meetings or route reviews some of which may be before or after regular business hours or inclement weather.

    This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

    New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
