    Minimum Qualifications

    • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Emergency Management, Public Administration, Business Management, Homeland Security, or in a field related to the job, plus six (6) years of experience, including three (3) years of experience which were in a field related to emergency response or planning and three (3) years of experience which were in a field related to aviation or airport operations and two (2) years of experience which were in a lead, supervisory capacity.
    • Additional years of experience in Homeland Security/Emergency Management may substitute for education up to a maximum of four (4) years.
    • Graduation with a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field may substitute for non-lead or non-supervisory experience up to a maximum of two (2) years.


    Licenses or Certifications:
    • Valid Texas Class C Driver License or the ability to obtain within three (3) months.
    • Must also have or have the ability to obtain their Certified Emergency Manager ( CEM ) certification within six (6) months of employment.
    Notes to Applicants

    Under minimal direction, this position is responsible for the management and administration of the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport Department Operations Center, Emergency Operations Plan, training, planning, and response activities related to natural or man-made hazards and accidents and any malicious acts affecting the airport.

    Oversees and directs the development of short- and long-term Emergency Management planning goals and objectives for the department, including operations and services provided, with a focus on response functions needed to provide continued airport operations.
    Develops, implements, and monitors the Incident Command System and Emergency Operations Plans, as required by or in consideration of Federal, State, and Local regulations and requirements.
    Functions as AUS Incident Commander in their absence during event activation.
    Coordinates post-emergency after-action reviews and makes recommendations for corrective action.
    Develops and delivers or facilitates the delivery of Federal and state required training including full-scale and quarterly tabletop exercises in coordination with the Airport Security leadership.
    Ensures operational readiness of various communication systems, resource supplies, and other emergency response tools.

    DRIVING REQUIREMENT :

    This position requires a Valid State of Texas Class “C” Driver License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months. Job Offer is contingent on having a driving record that meets the City’s Driver Record Evaluation Standards.

    SHIFT INCENTIVE


    Shift work includes shift differential incentive for evening and night shifts and weekends.

    This position is categorized as essential personnel. Essential personnel are required to come to work during emergencies or bad weather at the airport if they are scheduled to work and in some cases when they are not scheduled.

    • Proven Leadership in Emergency Management: Demonstrated experience leading and coordinate multi-agency teams in the development, execution, and evaluation of emergency management plans and large-scale exercises, including serving in leadership roles within the National Incident Management System ( NIMS ) or Incident Command System ( ICS ) framework during both drills and real-world events.
    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
