DescriptionOversees and directs the functions and activities of Metro's bus and facilities maintenance operations, including oversight of all bus maintenance divisions, interacting with regulatory agencies, reviewing and updating maintenance policies and procedures, and ensuring that Metro's fleet is safe, reliable, clean, and on-time.
Examples of Duties- Provides direction and support to Metro's overall operation of bus and facilities maintenance to ensure attainment of Metro and departmental goals and objectives within established policies and parameters
- Coordinates activities within Maintenance Operations to assure peak performance and productivity, as well as conformance and compliance with established or mandated external regulations and policies effecting Metro operations, such as CHP (California Highway Patrol) inspections, division inspections, and various internal/ external audits, such as FTA (Federal Transit Administration), Triennial audits, etc.
- Develops and implements strategic business plans focusing on bus and facilities maintenance needs
- Develops and executes programs to improve service quality, reduce costs, increase employee productivity, and increase revenue and ridership
- Monitors operating performance, identifies problems/issues, facilitates/implements resolution, and directs efforts to achieve continual improvement in service quality
- Develops, reviews, implements, and maintains department and major capital budgets
- Works in cooperation with other Operations departments to provide seamless, high quality service to Metro customers
- Oversees and provides timely response and services to all division concerns regarding bus maintenance
- Responds to inquiries from regulatory agencies
- Represents Metro with public and elected officials, business leaders, and community groups in coordination with customer and external relations departments
- Facilitates support resources from all Metro departments
- Works cooperatively with other Operations Management staff to maintain the integrity of the system-wide network of services
- Supervises, trains, mentors, motivates, and evaluates performance of assigned staff
- Oversees and resolves labor issues
- Develops and reviews safety training programs
- Communicates and implements safety rules, policies, and procedures in support of the agency's safety vision and goals; and maintains accountability for the safety performance of all assigned employees

Minimum QualificationsA combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:
Education- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Public Administration, Engineering, or a related field
Experience- Eight years of relevant senior management-level experience in heavy fleet maintenance in a public transportation environment or comparable public or private organization
Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements- A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions
Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications (PQs) are used to identify relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) as determined by business necessity.
