    About the Position
    Performs paraprofessional library services by linking resources and customers, and promotes community civil discourse. A Library Assistant is an information advocate and forward thinker who inspires learning, discovery and the development of 21st century skills in others. Offers a variety of literacy programming, content creation, and preservation. Advocates for the library.

    Please note: This recruitment will be used to fill multiple Library Assistant vacancies at different locations. Candidates may be required to attend separate interviews for the different locations.

    Anticipated starting salary for this position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate's experience and internal equity. The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $24.79/hour.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education and Experience
    • A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
    • Six months of library or related experience.
    • Any equivalent combination of education and/or job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
    Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
    • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.


    Essential Functions

    Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:
    • Provide and model exceptional customer service by making the customer the first priority.
    • Establish, maintain, and foster positive, harmonious, professional, and effective working relationships.
    • Create and deliver exceptional programming and educational opportunities within the library, through community outreach, and virtually.
    • Teach and collaborate with customers, staff, and a variety of organizations to create content, to be effective consumers of information, and to be a lifelong learner.
    • Communicate library policies and procedures, request compliance with Library Rules of Conduct, and serve as "In-Charge" person in the evenings, on weekends, and as assigned.
    • Perform daily duties in a manner consistent with the Library's mission, goals, and objectives.
    • Work at all public service points to include Customer Service Desk where payments are processed.


    Work Environment/Physical Demands

    • Lift and carry materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
    • Reach, bend, stoop, lift and move arms above shoulder level; lift and carry library materials.
    • Work a varied schedule at various locations, including weekends and evenings.
