    • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to engineering, planning, architecture or related field plus three (3) years of experience in construction, engineering, architecture or related work.
    • Experience may substitute for education up to a maximum of four (4) years.

    This Project Coordinator position is with AW’s Construction & Rehabilitation Services ( CRS ) Division. The job expectations for this position include the following:

    • Coordinate with the Division’s Scheduler Analyst, Superintendent, and Supervisors, and other stakeholders to plan, initiate, and coordinate project construction including water and wastewater infrastructure installations and their maintenance, utility cut repairs, right-of-way infrastructure repairs and maintenance, and related works.
    • Travel to Austin Water worksites to review current status of construction projects including ROW repairs related to AW infrastructure management (repairs to driveways, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, etc.); coordinate outcomes and recommendations with Austin Water and the City’s Transportation & Public Works Department ( TPWD ) staff; review infrastructure conflicts and/or work zone ROW conflicts with other utilities and resolve related construction challenges.
    • Coordinate with the City’s TPWD staff to manage and track utility cut repairs and their progress, meet performance metrics, and reduce backlog, address work order changes, and project assignment issues, etc.
    • Provide quality assurance and quality control checks on utility cut repairs and Right-of-Way ( ROW ) repairs that are performed by either the Austin Water crews and/or City of Austin crews
    • Utilize City of Austin computerized asset management systems to manage projects related to AW infrastructure repairs and maintenance, and ROW repairs; prepare work orders, manage and track projects, submit new service requests, change orders, manage assets, etc., using computerized work order and maintenance management system.
    • Analyze data in AW’s computerized asset management systems and coordinate with AW’s Information Technology staff to create summary project tracking and progress reports for presentation to management. Assist in the development of reporting tools including BI Reports to effectively manage projects and track their progress.



    Street Cuts: any disturbed surface area within the right-of-way after operations personnel perform utility maintenance or repair work, including existing pavement and concrete infrastructures

    Driving Requirement:
    This position requires a Valid Texas Driver License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

    A current, valid Texas driver license is required as this position will be regularly traveling to various Austin Water field locations throughout the work week.

    Applicants must hold a current applicable driver’s license and have no more than six (6) points assessed on Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ). Please review the City of Austin Driving Standards to assess your driving record. DRE will be verified through the Department of Public Safety.

    Work Environment
    This position is in a heavy industrial setting and requires performing regular duties outdoors in all weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, and rain. The successful candidate for this position can expect to spend the majority of the work week outdoors in order to complete the assigned work.

    Preferred Experience:
    • Experience of construction, installation, and maintenance of water and wastewater underground utility infrastructure (horizontal assets); and interpreting Utilities Criteria Manual Requirements.
    • Experience in reading & interpreting design plan sheets of water and wastewater utilities, as-builts, and intersection drawings.
    • Knowledge and understanding of operations and activities in a utility or similarly regulated environment.
    • Experience with right-of-way ( ROW ) and road repairs and maintenance including concrete-related repairs, hot or cold asphalt mix application; experience operating specialized heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoe/loader, and other major construction and ROW repair equipment.
    • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems ( CMMS ) such as the one used by Austin Water ( IPS ) and/or City of Austin (Maximo).
    • Basic experience with mapping software such as Operations Web Map, or ARCGIS .
    • Knowledge of health and safety requirements related to excavation safety, experience in safely operating hand tools, power tools, and light and heavy equipment
    • Experience in obtaining Right-of-Way permits, setting up traffic control at job sites with approved standards (using Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices standards)
    • Current TCEQ Water Distribution ( TCEQ Class D or above) and/or Wastewater Collection license ( TCEQ Class 1 or above) or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
    • Basic experience using Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, & PowerPoint.


    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

    Communicates project and/or program information to internal and external customers Assists in the development and monitoring of project and/or program budgets by completing assignments that may include processing a pay application or monitoring and updating the assigned project budget. Assists in the development of short/long range plans on projects or work on routine projects whereby techniques used are well known and present no unusual engineering problems. Assists in the development and implementation of operating policies and procedures by providing input as a team member of an established process improvement team. Ensures compliance with City and other regulatory agency requirements and policies by verifying that regulatory/permitting processes have been identified and permits or approvals acquired for assigned project. Coordinates development/reviews construction or engineering related contracts, contract documents and Developer Agreements by reviewing preparing and processing project change orders to projects if change orders are appropriate and in compliance or applying technical quality control review. Coordinates and evaluates plans, criteria, schedules, etc. for a variety of projects, Programs, and plans or a division and/or section activities. Assists in the resolution of conflicts and difficult situations by providing supporting documentation, policies and procedures. Develops, maintains, and improves City of Austin design and construction standards. Provides technical advice and assistance

    City Government
