    Salary Scale: $81,795 - $86,100(Dependent upon qualifications)

    The College of Health and Human Development (HHD) at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is committed to student success. We are proud of our diverse faculty and staff. We have 50 staff members and a faculty of over 350 full- and part-time academic professionals who provide and support education, advising and mentorship opportunities to over 6,500 students enrolled in courses on campus and online.     About the Physical Education Program in the Department of Kinesiology:

    The Department of Kinesiology offers a Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) accredited Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology/Physical Education Subject Matter Program (SMP). The curriculum prepares students to be equitable and inclusive physical education teachers. The diversity of students enrolled in the program reflects CSUN’s demographics, with most students being first-generation college students and from a diversity of races/ethnicities.     Position:

    The department of Kinesiology at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member in Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) at the rank of assistant professor.

    The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Pedagogy in Physical Education and have research interests in physical education teacher education-related areas.

    In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours, attending faculty meetings, participation in assessment of student learning, and service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate may be required to teach on weekdays, evenings, weekends, and/or online and will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she/they is/are housed for recommending tenure and promotion. Given CSUN’s commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and engagement in a diverse environment, the successful candidate will help the Department achieve equitable academic outcomes for all students through teaching, student mentorship, scholarship, and service.

    Required Qualifications:
    • A doctorate in Kinesiology/Physical Education or a closely related field of study with an emphasis in pedagogy/curriculum and instruction from an accredited institution. Candidates in the process of completing a doctoral degree will be considered, but degree must be conferred before the time of appointment.
    • Demonstrate the potential to conduct research, engage in scholarly and creative activities, and provide service in the areas of elementary and secondary physical education
    • College or University-level teaching experience or potential to teach in-person, hybrid, and online courses.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Evidence of potential teaching experience in PK-12 schools in physical education
    • Verification of teaching in PETE-related coursework with an emphasis in secondary physical education
    • Working knowledge of accreditation processes in Physical Education (e.g. teaching credentials)
    • Experience with instructional and educational technology
    • Knowledge in a broad and balanced view of the discipline of Kinesiology, valuing equally the biological, socio-cultural, and aesthetic knowledge of human movement across the lifespan
    • Experience creating an inclusive, student-centered learning environment for a diverse student body using effective engagement and culturally responsive pedagogy that leads to equitable outcomes for all students.
    • Research/lab experience that includes adopting inclusive approaches to mentoring and working with others from diverse backgrounds.
    • An active or demonstrated potential of publication in peer-reviewed publications in the field.
