    POSITION SUMMARY

    The City of Fort Lauderdale community builders possess a passion for public service demonstrated by a high degree of enthusiasm, self-reliance, and job proficiency.     Produces high-quality visuals for print and digital platforms. Creates a wide range of designs, including logo development and branding; flyers; posters; ads; publications; annual reports; mailers; monthly utility bill notices and inserts; maps; web pages, graphics, banners; invitations; video graphics; bus benches; vinyl wraps; facility and other signage; PowerPoint presentations and templates; and digital slides for public access stations, from concept development to final art. These are for internal and external distribution via the City’s various communication platforms, including social media.

    NOTE: The duties of this position will include all of those duties set forth in the official job description.

    This is a non-classified "at-will" position and is not subject to Civil Service Rules or any collective bargaining agreement.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.     • Creates various communication materials using desktop publishing and design software programs to create artwork for print or electronic distribution, including the ability to resize graphics for a variety of platforms, especially social media
    • Ensures final graphics and layouts are visually appealing and align with City’s brand
    • Selects colors, fonts, photographs, layouts, and other design elements to communicate creative concepts to enhance readability
    • Collaborates with Strategic Communications Office staff on concepts, copy, layout, and production to translate vision and needs into design strategies
    • Prioritizes and manages multiple projects within design specifications and budget restrictions, estimates project duration, and ensures projects are created and delivered on schedule
    • Makes artwork revisions based on feedback provided and shares drafts as needed
    • Prepares, exports, and sends final art files for print production or for sharing on various communication platforms, including social media
    • Maintains all photography and electronic graphic art files, including native files and final output files
    • Stays up to date on current graphic design trends, concepts, techniques, and software programs
    • Performs related work as required


    JOB REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

    MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
    Associate’s Degree in Graphic Design or closely related field . Two (2) or more years of experience with print and electronic graphic design.Additional qualifying experience or completion of coursework at an accredited college or university in a job-related field, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience or education.
    Preferences:
    Knowledge of pre-press file setup.Proficiency of English language, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.Strong graphic design layout skills.Ability to plan, schedule, and produce work independently and collaboratively, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines with minimal supervisionHighly proficient in desktop publishing software programs (i.e. Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and equipment or similar.Experienced with content creation for digital platforms, including web, email, and social media

    Special Requirements:
    Submittal of PDF Portfolio or webpage showcasing your graphic design work required.
    As public servants, employees may be required to work immediately before, during, and/or after an emergency. All employees must be available and able to work assigned shifts as determined by their Department Heads.

    PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
    The position is generally sedentary. Employees sit most of the time but may walk or stand for brief periods of time.
