    Summary

    ** Position is subject to Career Ladder Depending on Experience and Certifications **


    Utilities Maintenance Worker - CDL
    $18.75 per hour with High School Diploma or GED, No CDL
    $23.10 per hour with the above and the addition of Class A CDL and Tanker Endorsement
    $23.63 per hour with the above and the addition of a Class D Basic Water Operations License or Collection Class I License
    Minimum Qualifications
    Required:
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • A valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License with a Tanker Endorsement is required within 180 days of employment.


    Senior Utilities Maintenance Worker - CDL
    $24.68 per hour
    Minimum Qualifications
    Required:
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • One and a half years (18 months) of experience as a Utility Maintenance Worker or comparable experience in basic water utility safety, basic water or wastewater practices, and awareness of chemicals used in performing the job.
    • TCEQ Class D Basic Water Operator License or Collection Class I License.
    • A valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License with a Tanker Endorsement.


    Distribution / Collection Water Operator - CDL
    $27.30 per hour
    Minimum Qualifications
    Required:
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Two years of progressively responsible experience as a water/wastewater Utility Worker or comparable experience in water utility safety, water or wastewater practices, and awareness of chemicals used in performing the job. Experience working with heavy equipment in installing or repairing water/wastewater infrastructure.
    • TCEQ Class C Water Operator License or TCEQ Class II Collection System License.
    • Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License with a Tanker Endorsement.


    Senior Distribution / Collection Water Operator - CDL
    $28.35 per hour with Class A CDL and Tanker Endorsement, Class C Distribution License, Class II Collection License, and four (4) years of experience

    Minimum Qualifications
    Required:
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Four years of progressively responsible experience as a water/wastewater Utility Worker, Distribution/Collection Operator, or comparable experience in water utility safety, water or wastewater practices, and awareness of chemicals used in performing the job. At least two (2) years of experience as a heavy equipment operator installing or repairing water/wastewater infrastructure is required as part of the four (4) years of experience.
    • TCEQ Class C Water Operator License.
    • TCEQ Class II Wastewater Collection System License.
    • Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License with a Tanker Endorsement.
    • Must be able to become certified for the Respiratory Protection and Confined-Space Entry Program and maintain certification

    Governance and Organization

    Waco is a home rule city with a council-manager form of government. The City Council is comprised of a Mayor, elected at-large, and five City Council members representing single-member districts, all serving two-year terms. The City Council sets the tax rate, approves the budget, appoints members to City boards and commissions, enacts City ordinances, and appoints the City Manager, City Attorney, City Secretary, and the Municipal Court Judge.

    The City has a strong Financial Management Policy that guides the operation and delivery of quality City services, contributes to excellent AA+ and Aa1 bond ratings, and maintains an unassigned fund balance reserve in the General Fund equal to 28% of current year budgeted expenditures. The City of Waco has more than 1,600 employees and a total operating budget of over $400 million.

    The City provides a full range of municipal services including a regional airport, animal services, building inspections, code enforcement, convention and visitors bureau, emergency management, housing and community development, economic development, fire, public health, library, municipal court, parks and recreation, planning, police, public works, Texas Ranger Hall of Fame Museum, utilities and zoo operations.
