    Job Summary:

    Under general supervision, the Transfer & Graduation Counselor will perform moderately complex professional student service work in that assignments typically require applying both knowledge and judgment in using the principles, techniques, standards, guides, and professional skills characteristic of a particular student service program or activity. Provide support to students from pre-matriculation through graduation and provide advising tools for faculty and professional advisors.

    Duties / Responsibilities:
    • Produce Program Advising Worksheets for Students (PAWS) for incoming undergraduate students, including transfer and freshmen, as part of their degree audits.
    • Utilize working knowledge of the practices and procedures to review and articulate all transfer work.
    • Review and determine course equivalencies/applicability and enter in the uAchieve institution articulation tables.
    • Send course descriptions to academic chairs for course equivalency and applicability then enter in uAchieve institution articulation tables.
    • Collect, compile, and analyze PAWS data to ensure that courses are falling into the appropriate categories and that students are receiving optimal credit.
    • Review and summarize remaining requirements for degree completion.
    • Alert students to any possible issues, gather factual information through basic interviewing, and use judgment to recommend appropriate solutions.
    • Meet with students, faculty, and staff to review policies and procedures, PAWS literacy, graduation check literacy, and any other questions regarding their records.
    • Maintaining effective working relationships with students, counselors, and Transfer Center Directors at local community colleges to facilitate student transfers to CSUSB.
    • Act as a resource and answer questions about course articulation/transfer, Associate Degree for Transfer (ADTs), and CSUSB program requirements.
    • Provide support to potential transfer students via phone, email, and Zoom.
    • Collaborate with CSUSB staff and faculty to provide assistance to pre-transfer students (transfer course articulation/applicability, remaining degree requirements, etc.)
    • Process course substitutions submitted by academic chairs and Academic Success and Undergraduate Advising (ASUA) through Exceptions from the Audit (EFA), email, and paper.
    • Programmatically and manually enter requirement adjustments in the uAchieve client.
    • Process adjustments both before and after graduation checks are produced.
    • Process requests from students who wish to take a course at an institution with which we have articulation agreements in order to meet graduation requirements.
    • Review students’ PAWS to ensure that the course requests are equivalent and applicable (i.e., beneficial).
    • Verify that Title 5, residency, and graduation requirements will be met.
    • Process transcript updates.
    • Update a student’s record and PAWS with coursework that has been approved by concurrent enrollment request.
    • Under direct supervision, review and subsequently graduate eligible undergraduate and postbaccalaureate students.
    • Manually review undergraduates who are not programmatically graduated.
    • Manually review all postbaccalaureate students.
    • Other classification related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience
    • Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience
    • Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis

    Required Qualifications
    • Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of the program to which assigned; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management.
    • General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior.
    • Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; recognize multicultural, multisexed and multi-aged value systems and work accordingly; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts; and, rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned.
    • Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas Services Office.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Successful experience working as a transfer credit or admissions/graduation evaluator.
    • Experience with the following software/platforms: ASSIST, PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, and TES (CollegeSource).
    • Experience working with degree audit systems, such as uAchieve.
    • Knowledge of CSU transfer patterns and policies.
    • Knowledge of CSUSB policies and procedures.
    • Excellent organization and communication skills.
    • High comfort level with using Microsoft 365 (especially Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, Word, and Excel), Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, and Sites), and Zoom.

    Compensation and Benefits:

    Anticipated Hiring Range: $4,841.00 per month

    Classification Salary Range: $4,841 - $6,884 per month

    The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.

    The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year.     Position Information: Work status: Full-time/Exempt/Probationary

    Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (7:30 am - 4:00 pm), some evenings/weekends.

    Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm), some evenings/weekends.

    Background Check
