    Minimum Qualifications
    Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
    • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus five (5) years experience providing security related services in a Security Operations Center environment, two (2) of which were in a lead capacity.


    Licenses or Certifications:

    This position will support in operating the 24/7 physical access control and surveillance system and provide mobile patrols to support secured operations of the utility. The Security Coordinator will work out of the System Control Center and provide supervision for internal and external security staff at various facilities across the City of Austin and Travis County.

    They will provide these services on the 3rd shift starting at 10:00 p.m.. and ends at 6:00 a.m.

    Work week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday
    Work week 2: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

    The Security Operations Supervisoris the main point of contact for the work group during their schedule hours and may be contacted by staff after-hour shifts. They will need to make sure security staff is present and performing their duties at all facilities. Operate the 24/7 physical access control and surveillance system to support secured operations of the utility and follow, produce, and enforce site policies, procedures and guidelines.

    Tasks may include:
    • Responding and investigating disturbance on-site and remote properties located throughout the city of Austin.
    • Respond to after-hour issues relating to maintenance and access.
    • Facilitate police and emergency response at AE sites.
    • Patrol electric utility sub-stations, critical infrastructure, unmanned facilities, construction lay down yards and other sites as needed.
    • Meet and provide access to law enforcement agencies to secured and/or energized areas as needed.
    • Work outside scheduled hours to ensure consistent coverage.
    • Attend and produce training/meetings and other activities as needed to meet utility and business unit needs.

    Driving Requirement:

    This position requires a Valid Texas Class “C” Drivers License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

    Work Schedule:
    • This position is categorized as Essential Personnel with the City of Austin. Essential staff are required to work during emergencies or bad weather if they are scheduled to work and, in some cases, when they are not scheduled. Essential employees ensure the continuance of key operations for the City of Austin.
    • Work hours may include after hours, holidays, and weekends and may include on-call shifts.
    • Shifts may change according to departmental needs.
    • Employee may be required to work additional hours outside of regular work schedule.


    This position is physically demanding and requires daily, year-round outdoor activities to include driving for an entire 8 hour shift during extreme heat and/or inclement weather. Extensive and frequent walking, sitting, standing, kneeling, squatting, bending, twisting upper body, pushing, pulling, climbing stairs, and opening gates is required to perform essential job functions.

In the event of a City-designated emergency, Essential Employees provide services that impact the public health, safety, utility services, and welfare of members of the Austin community and other employees and ensure the continuity of essential operations. In such an emergency, Essential Employees may be called back in, may be required to modify their schedule, may be assigned to a City-designated work site, or may be retained on site to assist with operations and recovery.

    Preferred Experience:
    • Experience working in a 24/7 Security Operation Center ( SOC ).
    • Experience leading and supervising security guard or patrol officers
    • Experience with Physical Access Control Systems, specifically with Picture Perfect, Facility Commander and OnGuard or comparable.
    • Experience developing, updating and enforcing security procedures.
    • Experience conducting and providing Security guard training including Physical Security Access Control systems
    • Experience using Microsoft suite applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.
    • Conduct vehicle patrols of electrical substations, critical infrastructure and other utility related facilities that are in rural areas and have uneven terrain.
    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.


    Coordinates security operations ensuring that security procedures are implemented and follows per the organizations Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Oversee the operations of the Security Operation Center and coordinate all emergency/crisis management operations providing a timely response to incidents as needed. Provides operation support and management services for the Security Officer Contract to include contract compliance and oversight of personnel selection, training, and scheduling. Evaluates internal and contracted security operations to maximize service effectiveness. Monitors and trains staff in job tasks and responsibilities to ensure effective performance. Respond to emergency situations, conduct follow-up investigations and file reports on security related incidents. Reviews staff’s documentation and communicate information to Division Manager as needed. Performs as a liaison for internal customers to provide assessments and program implementation for site security services to meet business needs. Develops activity reports and logs, tracking unit statistics and trends.
