    Position Overview:
    The Infection Control Program Manager will work within the Austin-Travis County EMS Safety Division but will independently oversee the department’s infection control program. The person in this role will be responsible for providing guidance for post-exposure testing and care, managing and analyzing exposure data to identify opportunities for education and prevention, and advising on infection control standards for personal protective equipment. The Infection Control Program Manager will coordinate with the Continuing Education (CE) Division to develop and deliver infection control training, be responsible for networking with local partners involved in the department’s infection control processes, and work with Public Safety Wellness to ensure all uniform staff are up to date on require immunizations. Additionally, the Infection Control Program Manager will assist with administration of the whole blood program and the maintenance of durable medical equipment.

    About EMS :
    The Emergency Medical Services department is responsible for managing critical time-sensitive life-threatening emergencies. While most of the assistance EMS gives to the community is medical in nature, everything we do is about service: service to our patients, their families and loved ones; service to our community; and service to the people who make up Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services.

    Driving Requirement:

    This position requires a valid Texas Class C Drivers License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

Essential Employees may be called back in during such events, required to modify their schedule, assigned to a City-designated work site, or retained on-site to assist with operations and recovery.

    • Experience with infection control within an Emergency Medical Services, Public Safety, or Clinical setting.
    • Experience creating and maintaining documentation and records.
    • Ability to remain self-motivated while working independently.
    • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office specifically MS Excel and Power BI (Business Intelligence).
    • Certified as a Designated Infection Control Officer ( DICO -C), Texas Infection Control Officer ( TICO ), Associate - Infection Prevention and Control (a- IPC ), EMT , or ability to obtain certification withing the first six (6) months of hire.
    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

    1.Provides technical assistance for requests for information on infectious diseases and their control.
    2.Coordinates twenty-four(24) coverage for exposure/infection control consultation with appropriate personnel.
    3.Maintains the system’s immunization program, including immunization qualifications for vaccine administrators, maintains the system’s tuberculosis testing program.
    4.Provides technical assistance and guidance in the development of appropriate infection control education and training.
    5.Assists system organizations with the establishment of standards for personal protective equipment, and the cleaning and disinfecting of equipment
    6.Manages and oversees the system exposure program.
    7.Collects and presents quality assurance data on the system infection control program.
    8.Conducts education and training on infectious diseases and prevention. Investigates suspected infections within the departments that may affect communal living and patient safety.
    9.Conducts reviews of the Infection Control Manual, Clinical Operating Guidelines for Infection Control, and personal protective equipment to ensure they reflect current research, laws, regulations, and accepted medical standards
    10.Assists with community-wide pandemic flu planning, suspect disease outbreaks, clusters and disseminating disease advisories.
    11.Participates in networking opportunities with area hospitals, health agencies, and other health professionals including school nurses and infection control practitioners.
    12.Serves as the Single Point of Contact ( SPOC ) in the establishment, documentation, and maintenance of written agreements, letters of understanding, and contracts with providers and agencies for infection control services, serves as the primary liaison with regards to infection control issues with the EMS system Medical Director, and serves as the System “designated officer” as required by the Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Act of 1990 (PL 101-381).
