    The Position: Assistant Tenure-Track Professor

    Position Starts: Fall 2025

    College: Agriculture

    Department/School: Agriculture (Animal Science Program)

    Salary: Academic year salary: $89,000 - 98,000, with the possibility of additional winter and summer session employment, depending on interest, programmatic needs, and budget.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree (must earn licensure in California within 12 months of position start date). Candidates nearing completion of the terminal degree may be considered; however, all requirements for conferral of the degree must be met no later than the start date of the position.

    Responsibilities:

    This tenure-track position carries responsibilities in the areas of undergraduate teaching, scholarship (e.g. dissemination, grants), and service (e.g. student advising, committee service). Instruction may be in veterinary practices, herd health and immunology, animal welfare, livestock, and companion animal behavior, dependent on the successful candidate’s skill set. Additional responsibilities for the tenure-track appointment includes advising undergraduate students, particularly those majoring in Animal Science with an option in Pre-Veterinary Science, as well as basic service on committees for the college and/or university.

    The College and Program:

    The College of Agriculture includes 18 full-time tenured/tenure track faculty, 16 full or part-time lecturers, and approximately 825 undergraduate students and offers programs leading to bachelor’s degrees in Agricultural Science (options in Agricultural Science and Education and Agricultural Communications and Leadership), Agricultural Business, Animal Science (options in Food Animal Production and Pre-Veterinary Science), and Plant and Soil Sciences (options in Crops and Horticulture and Land and Soil Resource Management). The Animal Science program has over 450 majors and is currently the eighth-largest major at the university. The faculty represents a wide range of interests, and the hallmark of our program is an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to undergraduate education. Central to this approach is incorporating our 800-acre University Farm and 240 acres of native rangeland. Animal enterprises include beef, organic dairy, sheep, swine, and a USDA meats facility.
