    Anticipated Hiring Range

    $9,450.00 to $9,537.00 per month ($113,400.00 to $114,444.00 annually)

    Salary is commensurate with experience.

    Position Summary

    Under the immediate direction of the School of Social Work (SSW) Director/Principal Investigator, the SSW Internship Director serves in an administrative and educational capacity and undertakes administrative studies of considerable complexity. Students admitted into the BASW and MSW Degree programs are required to complete internship education (seniors in the BASW program, and both years in the MSW program). The SSW Internship Director provides all leadership and management in creating, developing, negotiating with various constituencies, and managing the entire internship program. This position performs preliminary planning of method approach and coordinates with internship agencies throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. The incumbent is responsible for professional and public outreach and must have a strong presence and connectivity with different communities to draw internship opportunities to the SSW. This position is responsible for multiple areas of study related to development of all policies, practices and procedures, program management, management of student needs, training of Internship Supervisors and Internship Liaisons, internship curriculum development, systems development, administrative procedures, data processing, operational effectiveness, and retention of students in internships. This position will also support the Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) grant with career development support and licensure preparation support for HCAI students. This position requires a high level of creativity, ingenuity, and strategic thinking is essential for this position.

    This position consist of two separate appointments, time bases that fall under two different bargaining units:
    .80 AAIS III Classification (Associate Academic Institutional Studies Level 3) CSUEU - Staff Union
    .20 12-month Lecturer CFA California Faculty Association

    Position Information

    Administer and Manage the SSW Internship Program
    • Provide leadership, direction and management of internship education which encompasses recruiting, vetting, approving and oversight of internship agencies and internship supervisors.
    • Plan, develop, organize, and manage all aspects of the program by developing & establishing all policies, procedures, practices, programmatic components, and the internship manual to meet Council of Social Work Education (CSWE) accreditation standards in depth contractual goals and objectives with HCAI.
    • Develop an in-depth general project 4-year plan and vision for the overall program.
    • Keep and maintain accurate records of all programmatic aspects including compliance and obligations (learning appropriate software such as S4, etc.)
    • Oversee all new internship site outreach steps, MOU processes, assessments and evaluations pertaining to students in the program. Meeting with students bi-weekly to assess and evaluate the program and learning outcomes.
    • Compile and analyze all records of all programmatic aspects including compliance for CSWE accreditation.
    • Work collaboratively with other SSW Internship Seminar faculty to ensure CSWE student competencies are met in the seminar courses.
    • Manage and coordinate external LCSW pre-licensure clinical trainers and career development speakers under HCAI grant.
    • Assist with the coordination of external career explorations trainings for HCAI students (with a $30,000 training budget over 4 years).
    • Facilitate workshops, develop modules, trainings, etc. on internship content for students as needed. Facilitate an Internship Workshop for incoming students during orientation.
    • Participation in on-going collaborations with public and private entities: Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), National Association of Social Workers (NASW), CADD, and CA Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) to disseminate information about our Internship Program.
    • Work collaboratively with the BASW and MSW Coordinators, Curriculum Committee and Principal Investigator/SSW Director to ensure CSWE accreditation requirements are being met.
    • Assist internship agencies in developing field placements and manage MOUs for said placements.
    • Work with Internship Liaisons (seminar instructors) to ensure student learning objectives in placements are being met. Identify fieldwork problems students are encountering and work with agency staff to resolve issues related to these problems.
    • Work with faculty and admin to identify and address issues that may affect a student’s program through the program. Mediate any student conflicts in the internship placements if Liaisons are not able to.
    • Attend all SSW faculty and curriculum meetings.
    • Attend SF Bay Area Internship Coordinator meetings as required.
    • Serve on departmental, college and/or university committees as necessary.
    • Participate in the SSW and College’s partnerships team, working collaboratively to build relationships with community partners to benefit the entire college, as needed.

    Conduct Research and Evaluation
    • Undertake ongoing and periodic review of SSW Internship Program, including student satisfaction, student outcomes, etc. Manage the S4 student database upon launch.
    • Develop new evaluation tools to examine impact, outcomes, and effectiveness of the SSW Internship Program.
    • Gather and evaluate student professional development outcome data (for long term outcomes, post-graduation).
    • Preparation and timely submission of internship reports and evaluations to HCAI, SSW, College of HSS, and ORSP, etc.

    Lecture and Teaching Responsibility
    • Teach and facilitate guest-lectures in Internship Seminars.
    • Training students during intersession.
    • Supervision to students.

    Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications
    • Thorough knowledge of the principles of management and organization; and of administrative survey principles and techniques and skill in their applications; thorough knowledge of the subject area of assignment.
    • Ability to plan, organize, conduct, and participate in major administrative and analytical studies; ability to relate the overall objectives and policies of the Trustees, the Office of the Chancellor and the administration and faculties of the campus to the studies.
    • Ability to see the interrelationships within and among the various educational, administrative, and fiscal programs on the campus - and work with all units strategically: including ORSP, College of Health and Social Sciences, School of Social Work, SSW Alumni Association and University Alumni Association.
    • Ability to approach problems objectively; ability to present findings and recommendations clearly and diplomatically and to reconcile to the extent possible, various divergent points of view.
    • Ability to utilize complex statistical and various analytical research methods; ability to draw conclusions and develop recommendations.
    • Ability to prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual written reports.
    • Five years of progressively responsible administrative or professional experience which demonstrates ability to conduct complex analyses of problems in assigned functional areas.

    • The rank of Associate Professor or higher in a four-year college or university and demonstrated experience in research or special study work may be substituted for up to four years of experience.

    • Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university

    Required Licenses/Certificates
    • Licensed Clinical Social Work in the State of California

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Administrative skills in tracking data, excel, PowerPoint/Google slides and other technology platforms.
    • Experience in internship placement, internship education curriculum and seminars, experience in student supervision and advising, experience in developing and overseeing the implementation of various programs associated with the school.
    • Effectively use computers and related applications.
    • Ability to identify, plan, establish, implement, and evaluate programs and practices; focused thinker that can accomplish work independently, collaboratively, and effectively; interpersonal and intercultural abilities; sensitivities to work in a team-oriented school.
    • Ability to interact and collaborate effectively and professionally with university, community, and agency personnel, supervisory experience in an administrative role at a social service agency.
    • Adheres to and understands FERPA and Family Code confidentiality laws and regulations.
    • Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.
    • Grants management experience in higher education settings.
    • Licensed Clinical Social Work (LCSW) with Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) State of California or doctoral degree (in order to develop the needed clinical IBH curriculum and teach IBH courses as needed).
    • 2 years of post-MSW social work experience; prior supervisory and/or experience in educational or academic settings.
