    • Explore and Investigate: Dive into budget matters by gathering and analyzing data from national databases and other higher education institutions.

    • Budget Management: Post budget data to journals, registers, or ledgers and maintain continuous budgetary control.
    • Create and Summarize: Draft reports and materials to summarize, analyze, and justify budget programs.
    • Conduct Studies: Research and analyze various financial administration challenges.
    • Support and Assist: Aid higher-level analysts and management with position control, labor cost distribution, and budgetary functions.
    • Communicate and Instruct: Provide clear information and instructions to management and employees regarding budget and financial procedures.
    • Report and Correspond: Prepare reports and correspondence for review by higher-level staff.
    • Maintain Standards: Document and uphold business processes, standards, and procedures.
    • Troubleshoot: Offer initial troubleshooting for financial system issues and participate in system upgrades and testing.
    • Data Analysis: Compile, query, and analyze large volumes of financial data using integrated financial systems and other records management tools.
    • Support: Handle committee and office administrative duties with efficiency and professionalism.

    Position Information
    • This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible permanent/probationary position.
    • This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
    • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
    • This position is approved for partial telecommuting with onsite work in San Diego.

    Department Summary

    The department of Budget & Finance is responsible for the preparation and administration of the University budget. Responsibilities include planning and resource analysis to improve the allocation and use of resources and development and implementation of policies, procedures, and systems to ensure fiscal control and responsibility. The unit is the primary source for budgetary information and provides professional assistance and advice to the administration and faculty relating to budgetary and other fiscal matters. The department of Budget & Finance is responsible for position management and processing the monthly university payroll data through the Labor Cost Distribution (LCD) module and for the monitoring, analysis, and reconciliation of the payroll to the appropriate accounts in the General Ledger. Responsibilities include input, analysis, testing and maintenance of the PeopleSoft Position Management and Labor Cost Distribution modules. The department of Budget & Finance consists of one director, one manager, one management analyst and two budget analysts.

    Education and Experience

    Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.

    Key Qualifications
    • Experience in using Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
    • Experience with Oracle Financials and PeopleSoft Human Capital Management.
    • Experience with query tools (e.g. Brio, MS Excel, SQL, etc.) to extract data for use in a wide variety of analytical tasks.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the CSU Budget structure, FIRMS budget structure and the University organizational structure is preferred.

    Compensation and Benefits

    Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $5,000 per month.

    Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

    CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,598 - $8,318 per month.
