    Salary up to $118,531 (employer-paid retirement)
    $138,385 (employee/employer-paid retirement schedule)

    Under the general direction of the State Medical Epidemiologist, the incumbent provides supports,
    management, and oversight of statewide programs for disease control, intervention services and
    coordination of epidemiological investigations. This position provides consultation to staff, health
    districts, community health programs, health care providers, legislators, various boards and commissions,
    and the public on epidemiology and communicable and chronic disease control programs, prepares and
    presents lectures and informal talks, and provides technical assistance to health care providers. This
    position will also be expected to provide testimony before committees, boards and the legislature as
    necessary.
    The State Epidemiologist provides oversight for grant development and monitoring processes including
    preparation of reports to granting agencies; promulgate and revise regulations; analyzes changes in State
    and federal legislation which affects disease control programs; oversees data management;
    communicates with the media on epidemiological and infectious disease issues; serves as the liaison with
    the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists
    (CSTE), and other federal partners; coordinates surveillance and investigation activities among state,
    federal and local agencies; designs conducts and analyzes data from epidemiologic investigations.
    This is an unclassified position and serves at the pleasure of the Division Administrator, Division of Public
    and Behavioral Health. Statewide and some out-of-state travel is required.

    Qualifications: Doctoral degree in medicine, public health, community health, health ecology,
    epidemiology, veterinary medicine, or closely related field and three years professional experience in a
    public health environment which involves coordinating epidemiological investigations and surveys; or,
    Master's degree in public health, community health, health ecology, epidemiology, veterinary medicine, or
    closely related field and four years professional experience in a public health environment which involves
    coordinating epidemiological investigations and surveys. This position must also have experience
    supervising staff.

    LOCATION: The position may be located in Reno, Carson City, Las Vegas, or rural offices depending on the
    candidate pool.

On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
