    The Position

    Highway Maintenance Supervisors supervise skilled and semi-skilled personnel engaged in restoring roadway surfaces and restoring or constructing slopes, shoulders, culverts, structures, fixtures and landscaping.

    Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.

    The Nevada Department of Transportation is recruiting to fill the Highway Maintenance Supervisor I position in Fernley, Nevada. Highway Maintenance Supervisors I for the Stormwater crew in Fernley, are responsible for various programs, including EAMS, GIS, Mapping, and Surveying software. Responsibilities also include operations of specialized equipment, including remote control skid steers, culvert flushers, and camera systems for pipe and structure inspections. This is a specialty crew used District-wide for the cleaning and inspection of stormwater facilities but may at times be used for general highway maintenance activities to assist crews with workload on regular maintenance activities, including but not limited to pavement and fence repair, district improvement projects, scheduling winter operations, etc. The State of Nevada is an equal opportunity employer dedicated to building diverse, inclusive, and innovative work environments with employees who reflect our communities and enthusiastically serve them.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of experience as leadworker of a highway maintenance crew which included assigning and overseeing the work of lower level personnel, providing input on performance evaluations and assisting the supervisor in laying out a variety of roadway or specialty maintenance work; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years experience as a Highway Maintenance Worker III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes In order to meet the needs of specialized disciplines in the highway maintenance field, specific background or skills may be required and will be identified at the time of recruitment. Special Requirements A valid class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment and for continued employment. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, all positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in these positions must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. In addition, federal law requires random testing for controlled substances during employment. A Class A commercial driver's license, including appropriate endorsements will be required within six months of appointment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
