    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Community Affairs Manager

    Salary range from $60,000 to $65,000 commensurate with experience.

    General Description and Classification Standards

    Assists an assigned department in carrying out the overall functions and day-to-day operations relating to community affairs and public relations.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Include, but are not limited to: supervising staff and/or volunteers; providing administrative support; coordinating special events; developing outreach opportunities; attending select meetings; and processing associated paperwork and constituent cases.

    Supervision Received

    Works under very general supervision. Depending on organization structure, may work independently with responsibility for an assigned function or program.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned:
    • Serves as liaison to business, professional, religious, community and civic groups for continuous positive public relations.
    • Reviews complaints, identifies trends and discusses plans of correction.
    • Responds to questions, complaints, and requests for information by telephone, in person or by mail from citizens, city employees and department heads.
    • Speaks to community, civic, religious, business, and professional groups to provide information and positive public relations concerning activities and initiatives of the department.

    Decision Making

    Uses independent judgment in routine and non-routine situations including assistance with preparing the annual budget and analyzing the department’s needs for engagement.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list:
    • Knowledge of the policies, procedures and activities as they pertain to the performance of duties relating to the position of Community Affairs Manager and the terminology used within the department.
    • Skill in effectively communicating and interacting with subordinates, supervisors, and other staff members. Ability to perform duties under a moderate degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention to details and tight deadlines; and ability to read and comprehend management reports.


    Qualifications - External

    Bachelor’s degree in finance, business and public administration or a related field. 3-5 years of experience in community-based interaction and program management and a minimum of 1 year of supervisory or managerial experience is required; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job.

    Preferred Education & Experience

    Bachelor’s degree in finance, business and public administration or a related field and 5-8 years of experience in community-based interaction and program management and 1-3 years' of supervisory or managerial experience is preferred.
