    EXTRA HELP POSITION(S) AVAILABLE WITH

    THE OFFICE OF THE TULARE COUNTY RESOURCE MANAGEMENT AGENCY

    Applications will be reviewed by County Human Resources & Development. As extra help positions become available, County departments with the job openings select the most qualified and appropriate applicant for the position available. The number of hours and duration of employment varies by each assignment. Extra help employees may work in a variety of County departments in locations throughout the geographic county area. Extra help employees may not work more than 1,559 hours in any fiscal year from July to June.

    An extra help employee who mistakenly works in excess of 1,559 hours in a fiscal year does not become a probationary or regular employee.

    Applications will be active for six months. If you are hired for extra help and you complete a work assignment and then wish to be employed again, you must resubmit an Extra Help application online.

    There are no benefits associated with extra help positions.

    Typical Duties

    Process invoices; keep payment records; check and maintain employee work, sick leave, vacation and related time records; prepare and submit requisitions, schedule delivery of supplies, pick up and deliver materials from warehouse and/or from vendors on open purchase orders; plan for the receipt, storage and issuance of parts and supplies; maintain equipment purchase records, operating and maintenance records, stock control and inventory records; use maintenance manuals and parts catalogs; keep records on location, transfer, surplus or operating status of fixed assets; record cost of road construction and maintenance projects; keep files for ready provision for accounting studies and reports; answer telephone and radio-telephone communications; receive complaints on road conditions, make explanations or relay messages to proper point for remedy; provide assistance and information to other agencies and the public; may be on call to keep radio contact among emergency road repair crews; attend staff safety meetings; type budget, safety and confidential reports; may train other employees; receipt monies and make bank deposits.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education/Experience: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade AND two (2) years doing general records, stock, supply or purchasing clerk work or one (1) year of additional education in accounting studies.

    Knowledge of: Tools, materials, equipment and vehicles used in County road construction/maintenance; business forms used to receive and order equipment; business math and simple accounting procedures sufficient to compute cost of materials and equipment; budget calculations and inventory records; office equipment and office management practices.

    Skill/Ability to: Work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds by respecting beliefs, interpersonal styles and behaviors of both clients and co-workers; operate contemporary office equipment inclusive of computer, keyboard, and all applicable electronic equipment; use parts and supply catalogs; prepare requisitions, clear purchase orders and obtain needed supplies; keep accurate records; write clear, concise, grammatically correct reports; meet or talk with the public tactfully and courteously to answer questions and explain departmental practices and procedures; obtain accurate information from irate citizens; follow verbal and written instructions without supervision; logically solve a wide range of problems; remain flexible under changes in workloads, assignments and pressure of meeting deadlines; organize work in proper step-by-step order; establish and maintain effective working relationships.

    License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain an appropriate, valid California driver's license.

    DESIRABLE EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

    Knowledge of: County purchasing and requisition procedures; County geography, streets and roads.

    Skill/Ability to: Use a keyboard at a moderate speed; conduct research, collect information and organize material in a manageable form.
