    A Field Operations Crew leader position is available with the City of Fort Worth Transportation and Public Works Streets Operation Division.     A Field Operations Crew leader job is available with the City of Fort Worth Transportation and Public Works/Street Operations Division. The position is for the TPW Pothole Program. The position is for the TPW Pothole Program. TPW/Street Operations Pothole Program performs small asphalt street maintenance repairs and operates as an emergency response for all street-related situations.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • High school diploma/GED and two years of responsible experience in field construction, maintenance, repair, or operational activities related to assigned division.
    • When assigned to Transportation Public Works (TPW) Street Division must have a CDL-A at the time of hire.
    • Class A CDL - with tanker endorsement
    • Must pass Drug Screen, Physical

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Two years responsible experience in field construction, maintenance, repair or operational activities, preferably in management role
    • Experience writing employee performance appraisals
    • Cave-in response
    • Experience with the pothole patcher truck, jack hammers, plate compactor, various hand tools, or equipment related to street maintenance.
    • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software such as: Excel, Word, and Outlook.
    • Good written and verbal skills
    • Ability to encourage and maintain a professional atmosphere within the section.
    • Knowledge of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
    • Experience operating an iPad
    • Experience using Vue Works (mobile and desktop versions)

    The Field Operations Crewleader job responsibilities include:
    • Responsible for monitoring the quality, responsiveness, efficiency and effectiveness regarding general field operations to include construction, maintenance and repair activities which may include water utilities, parks and community services, transportation/public works, city services and other related services.
    • Oversee pothole projects and make adjustments as needed.
    • Fill in for subordinates in their absence.
    • Train and advise employees on proper data entry in the Mobile Vue Application.
    • Conduct regular safety inspections and maintain a safe worksite for employees and citizens.
    • Dispatch emergency truck and pothole patchers when needed.
    • Responsible for scheduling and management of all pothole complaints ensuring they are repaired and completed within 48 hours in the absence of the supervisor.
    • Contact and coordinate resolutions with various departments both internal and external, including neighboring cities, counties and TxDOT.
    • In-field supervision of up to 8 employees in the absence of the supervisor.
    • Monitor and evaluate quality, responsiveness, efficiency and effectiveness of assigned operation methods and procedures.
    • Assist in responding and resolving public inquiries and complaints.
    • Perform more technical and complex task of the work unit.
    • Assist with the writing of employee appraisals.
    • Help subordinates with computer issues including use of asset management software on either desktop or mobile version.
    • Prepare reports concerning operations and activities.
    • Report employee time through PeopleSoft Time Reporting software in the absence of the Supervisor.
    • Provide training opportunities for subordinates that desire to advance.
    • Assist in emergency operations during inclement weather events and after-hours emergencies.

    Working Conditions

    Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions.

    Physical Demand

    Heavy Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.

    Medical Program
