    The Position

    Prison Milker milks cows, cleans milking and milk handling equipment, oversees and instructs inmates; and does related work as required at a prison dairy.

    Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

    Prison Milkers are responsible for related chores common to the operation of a dairy and crop farm such as feeding, administering medication, cleaning corrals, stacking hay, operating equipment, repairing buildings, fences, etc. These incumbents milk cows twice daily using mechanical milking equipment, identify and treat common cattle health problems, illnesses, sanitize milking equipment using methods and chemicals to flush and soak milking machines, tanks and lines; assist n castration and the breeding/birthing program cy conducting animal pregnancy tests and documenting cycles. Incumbents identify and treat common health problems in the milking string; treats illness or inflammation with salves and antibiotics and administers routine vaccinations to maintain health and production of the dairy herd. Candidates should have experience in caring for cows and calves including treatment of injury, sickness, lameness, feed ration formulation and record keeping.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) One year of experience milking cows on a milk production line using mechanized milking equipment. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.     Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
