    The Position

    Employee Development Managers and Training Officers analyze, design, develop, implement, evaluate, manage and coordinate training and development for a department, division or a geographic region of a department's statewide training function and supervise and/or conduct sessions for vocation and/or skills training in specific occupational areas and general management development.

    This position is located within the Nevada Department of Transportation's (NDOT) Human Resources Division, Training Section in Carson City. The incumbent will manage the agency's training section, including supervising the training staff, providing annual training reports, managing the training budget, designing and implementing the training programs and classes, preparing training plans, developing curriculum, and delivering training to employees. The incumbent provides oversight to the Workforce Development program. Statewide travel is required to provide training to NDOT staff.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in organizational behavior, education, communications, business or public administration or a related field and four years of professional experience planning and developing curriculum and coordinating and conducting training in an employer sponsored learning and development program including one year of experience supervising trainers and/or managing employee development programs; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and six years of professional experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Training Officer II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements This position requires valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.     The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

An Act of Congress created the Territory of Nevada on March 2, 1861. James W. Nye of New York was appointed Nevada's first Territorial Governor by President Abraham Lincoln later that year. On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
