    Water/Wastewater Instructor

    5 positions to be filled

    Part-Time

    Telecommuter

    $40.00/hour

    The Water/Wastewater Instructor delivers and conducts training courses for water and wastewater utility personnel to increase their technical competence and skills at remote locations. This position is responsible for classroom and topic preparation, delivery of classes including demonstrating with teaching aids, and completing required administrative paperwork. The Instructor is expected to maintain their technical competence and skills. This position reports to the Training Manager.

    Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university (equivalency: Will consider an Associates degree with five years of related experience in the operation, maintenance, design, construction, or regulation of water utility systems or a High School Diploma/GED with seven years of related experience in the operation, maintenance, design, construction, or regulation of water utility systems)
    • Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, design, construction, or regulation of water utility systems
    • TCEQ Sponsor Requirements
      One year of experience in training adults, and 60 hours of classroom instructional experience OR
      Completion of approved Instructor training courses in:
      1. Methods of Teaching OR Effective Instructional Techniques
      AND
      2. Instructional Design and Evaluation OR Organizational and Use of Training Materials


    Required Licenses/Certifications:
    • Valid Driver’s License
    • Texas Class "B" Water License; or
    • Texas Class "B" Wastewater License


    Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
    • Ability to regularly use a computer/keyboard.
    • Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, cold and heat.
    • Ability to support training delivery for up to 8-10 hours/day (standing).
    • Physical conditioning consistent with setting up classrooms, wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) during instruction, movement of training equipment and instructional materials up to 40 lbs.
    • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines.


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university
    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Biology or related field from an accredited college or university
    • Five or more years of experience in the operation, maintenance, design, construction, or regulation of water utility systems
    • Six months or more experience as an Instructor in Water Utilities courses
    • Texas Class "A" Water license, with experience in both Surface Water and Groundwater
    • Texas Class "A" Wastewater license
    • Texas BPAT, CSI, or OSSF licensing
    • Five or more years of adult education and/or training


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, laboratory control and safety of water utility systems.
    • Ability to be an effective instructor for water utility personnel.
    • Skilled at oral communications and presentations.
    • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to positively and professionally interact with clients and staff.
    • Knowledge of basic office software and instructional programs.
    • Knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instructing individuals and groups.
    • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods.
    • Skilled in utilizing various learning and active listening strategies.
    • Ability to orally comprehend and express information and use inductive and deductive reasoning.


    Equipment:
    • Ability to operate standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone.
    • Ability to operate presentation equipment: projectors, cameras and microphones.
    • PPE if needed.


    Notifications:
    • This position is security-sensitive.
    • This position may require up to 80% or more travel.
    • This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
    • This position allows telecommuting per TEEX guidelines.
    • This is a wage position established to accommodate a temporary organizational need. As such, TEEX does not guarantee any set number of hours or length of employment in this role.
    • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
    • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.


    Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:

    Provides classroom and field instruction for the Water and Wastewater Training Program - 95%
    • Travels to remote locations and provides classroom instruction across the state as assigned by program supervisor (travel will frequently require multiple overnight stay(s)).
    • Ensures concerned parties, points of contacts, host organization, agencies, are contacted and notified of schedules, locations, and times.
    • Ensures all training materials and training aids are prepared before class and secured and accounted for upon completion of the course.
    • Follows approved curriculum course outline, performs all course exercises as explained in the Instructor Guide.
    • Ensures participants have achieved terminal objectives of the course.
    • Provides the opportunity for participants to evaluate training.
    • Assists with course development and review as needed, recommends changes/updates to materials.
    • Maintains subject matter expertise on water related topics of instruction.
    • Administers course post-testing.
    • Ensures completion and collection of student attendance rosters, registration forms, pre-test/post-test, course evaluations, and delivery records forms.
    • Prepares class records and ensures that they are submitted in a timely fashion at the conclusion of the training.
    • Ensures class documentation is completed in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with division guidance, Agency, and contractual requirements (if applicable).


    Serve as SME for Water and Wastewater Training Program and develop courses and update course materials - 5%
    • Participates in professional development in subject matter areas.
    • Update technical courses, conduct special training courses as assigned by the program supervisor.
    • Develops course outlines for new or emerging treatment technologies.

    • As part of the TEEX’s mission of providing training, developing practical solutions, and saving lives; this position could be required, if called upon, to deploy within the State of Texas as directed by this position’s Division Division/ HQ Department Head.
