    Position Description
    The Patient Services Specialist at Abilene Community Health Center is responsible for assuring smooth operation of the clinic patient flow. These employees serve as the primary contacts for patients and are responsible for scheduling appointments, preparing necessary paperwork before the patient visits, receiving patients, and maintaining records. In addition, this position is responsible for processing charges for clinic services, filing insurance claims, responding to requests for information from patients and insurance companies and maintaining related information for the department. Employees may have cash-handling responsibilities.

    Major/Essential Functions
    This is a Patient Services Specialist at the TTUHSC SON Combest Abilene Community Health Center (ACHC).
    • Demonstrates the TTUHSC Values Based Culture
    • Financial Counseling duties
    • Uses call center to manage incoming phone calls. Answer all incoming calls to the clinic, take messages, and transfers calls accordingly.
    • Calls patients to confirm appointments and to reschedule appointments when necessary.
    • Register patients for appointments via phone or in person.
    • Understands, explains and confirms eligibility for sliding fee scale.
    • Responsible for collecting co-payments in the form of cash, credit card, checks/money orders and making change.
    • Provides expertise in insurance verification requirements and maintains current knowledge in utilization of on-line and phone insurance verification systems.
    • Schedules appointments using computer. Understands all scheduling guidelines and processes for multiple providers and clinic days.
    • Verifies insurance eligibility for service.
    • Coordinates with nursing staff in regards to patient assessment and medical needs.
    • Communicates effectively with all TTUHSC departments, especially medical staff, nursing, and supervisor
    • Performance of work duties within knowledge and ability as assigned
    • Follows safety guidelines and participates in training and drills


    Required Qualifications
    A High School diploma or GED.
    1-year Customer Service, office, or related experience.
    Additional education may substitute for the experience requirement.
