    Summary

    California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor in Computer Engineering. Priority will be given to applicants who specialize in robotics, cyber-physical systems, computer vision systems, and VLSI. However, outstanding candidates from other areas within the field of computer engineering may also be considered. Candidates with industry experience are encouraged to apply.

    Candidates must be committed to contributing to an undergraduate-centered, pedagogically innovative, and modern Computer Engineering degree program. Computer Engineering is among the fast-growing programs at CSUSM, with close relations with local industry. California State University San Marcos offers a competitive salary with a full benefits package including one month of summer salary and a reduced load for the first year t o support the beginning teacher-scholar in this position.

    CSUSM values teaching undergraduates and involving them in research. The campus is located on a scenic hillside 15 miles east of the Pacific Ocean and in the San Diego North County region, an area known for its temperate climate and growing technology industries. The University was recently awarded a $5 million grant from the Department of Education’s Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) STEM Program to support our STEM degree programs, specifically Computer Engineering. Our campus embraces twenty-first-century learning and the teacher-scholar model.

    Minimum Qualifications
    • Applicants must possess B.S. in Computer or Electrical Engineering and a doctorate in Computer Engineering or related fields. (ABD applicants accepted; PhD Confirmation required by hired date)
    • Evidence of successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
    • Strong commitment to and demonstrated potential for teaching and scholarship excellence.
    • Ability to develop and sustain an independent research program, with evidence of publications in scholarly journals and/or conferences.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with colleagues and with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community with a substantial population of first-generation students.


    Preferred Qualifications
    • Demonstrated effectiveness in active learning practices such as project-based learning or group learning, and student support for diverse populations, especially those from groups underrepresented in STEM.
    • Interest in and/or experience with curriculum development, program assessment, and ABET accreditation.
    • Priority will be given to applicants who specialize in robotics, cyber-physical systems, computer vision systems, and VLSI.
    • Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated intercultural competence with diverse groups in teaching, research, and/or service.
    • In addition, preference will be given to applicants whose expertise will expand the education and research opportunities the department currently offers for students and be complementary to areas of specialization of existing faculty in the department and college.

    Responsibilities:
    • Teach, supervise, and advise students effectively adopting strategies proven successful for students traditionally underrepresented in STEM fields.
    • Design and establish instructional labs that expand the existing curriculum, working with industry and community partners to prepare students for the workforce.
    • Develop an active research program that involves undergraduate and graduate students.
    • Participate in activities serving the department, college, university, and community.

    Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $9,583- $10,416 per month

    CSU Classification Salary Range: $6,221- $13,224 per month
